Welcome to SAGAM’s June Newsletter…….. Well, most of May was a bit of a wash-out, wasn’t it? Lets hope the month of June is much better…..YES PLEASE!!! I hope you are keeping well and if you are back at work, have settle nicely back into the routine. Maybe holidays are on the horizon; not necessarily going abroad as per government guidelines but enjoy our great British country side or lovely sea side resorts. The 17th June is National Cup Cake Day, organised by the Alzheimer's Society to raise money and awareness of this terrible disease. There are so many different types of Dementia but Alzheimer’s seems to be the most prevalent, destroying many peoples lives along with their families. Why not have a Cup Cake Day and raise some money? I’ll let you go now but hope you enjoy browsing through this edition….. Did you find our little Herbena? She was on the plate of donuts on page 11. As the months slide by quickly, we are now, after a little delay in the process of mentor training, or Peer to Peer training as they now call it. This is for the National observers. When this is completed, we will be starting with observer training. Then with any luck we can get going again when everyone’s happy to do so. On Thursday 20th May, we had a brilliant zoom meeting with our current examiner Tim Stanley, who is a serving Police traffic officer down in London. Tim gave a brilliant insight into advanced driving techniques but paid particular attention to “spoken thoughts” with a “less is more“ slant on it. It was a really fantastic meeting. I think everyone took something away from it. We did have a bit of an issue with a noise coming from someone’s laptop which created a lot of noise that everyone had to suffer. Once we established what the problem was, we were able to correct it. We have now come to the conclusion that the only way to cure this problem is to ensure that everyone’s microphones will be muted, until they need to speak. Nevertheless, it was a great meeting and with 28 people online, so it was very well attended in my opinion. A great night and many thanks to Tim Stanley. I seriously need some ideas for a subject or name of a guest speaker for our next zoom meeting. If you have any ideas, please let me know. If someone could come up with an idea, I would happily follow it through if necessary. We have had a few subjects for a zoom, that have been looked at but for one reason or another have just not come to fruition. So, any ideas would be much appreciated. Moving on, have any of you that have passed the test and are still members having any issues with their driving? If so, why not contact us and if you just want a refresher with a friendly face, just let me know. We can offer advice electronically or arrange an informal run to help you sort out any issues you may have. If, however you want to take it a step further and have a proper assessment, then that can be arranged also. While I'm typing this, I can’t help wondering if a zoom road safety quiz would be worth considering. Let me know your thoughts please, after all this is all for you, it’s your group. When 'Oumuamua (which roughly means ‘Scout’ in the Hawaiian language) passed through our solar system in 2017, no one could figure out where the object came from. For the second time ever, astronomers have detected an interstellar object plunging through our solar system but this time, researchers think they know where it came from. Gennady Borisov, an amateur astronomer working with his own telescope in Crimea, first spotted the interstellar comet on August 30th. His find made the object the first interstellar visitor discovered since oblong 'Oumuamua flashed through our solar neighbourhood back in 2017. Now, in a new paper, a team of Polish researchers has calculated the path this new comet — known as Comet 2I/Borisov or (in early descriptions) as C/2019 Q4 — took to arrive in our sun's gravity well and that path leads back to a binary red dwarf star system 13.15 light-years away, known as Kruger 60. When you rewind Comet Borisov's path through space, you'll find that 1 million years ago, the object passed just 5.7 light-years from the centre of Kruger 60, moving just 2.13 miles per second (3.43 kilometres per second), the researchers wrote. That's fast in human terms —— about the top speed of an X-43A Scramjet, one of the fastest aircraft ever built but an X-43A Scramjet can't overcome the sun's gravity to escape our solar system.
