Recital Hair and Makeup Information All Female Dancers Must Wear

Recital Hair and Makeup Information All female dancers must wear makeup for the recital. Full hair and makeup are required for dress rehearsal and the show. NO JEWELRY OR NAIL POLISH ALLOWED. TIGHTS: Your tights come with your costume. Wear these tights for dress rehearsal and the show. If you’d like to purchase a backup pair in case of a run, you may do so in our proshop. A second pair is always a good idea. Please do not wear underwear as they will show through the tights and be visible through the costume in pictures and on stage. MAKEUP: Eye shadow: Look for a shade that will show up on your child’s skin tone (i.e. pink, purple, blue, brown) to apply to the lid and in the crease of the eye. A light white/ivory should be used to highlight underneath the eyebrow. If your child has very light eyebrows, use some powder a slight shade darker to fill them in. Eyeliner/mascara: Older dancers (age 8+) can and should use eyeliner and mascara. It is not required for young dancers, but if done well looks good on stage. Look at the YOUTUBE links sent in the email for tutorials for age appropriate stage makeup. Blush: Use pink blush on the cheekbones. Lipstick: Pink/red shades are acceptable; no dark purple or brown colors. See the costume book for examples. Color-stay lipsticks work really well and don’t smudge. Look at the YOUTUBE links sent in the email for tutorials and color suggestions. HAIR: All hair must be secured back. Use gel, hairspray, bobby pins, etc so there are no stray pieces. Only neutral colored hair products may be used (blonde/brown/black bobby pins, clips, etc). Many costumes come with a hair piece that will be used but no other optional decorative items are allowed. Bun hair nets are available for sale in our proshop in 3 different shades if you need them. These will help keep stray pieces of hair in the bun. Ballet IA, IB II and III and IV must put bangs back off of the forehead for dress rehearsal and the show. COSTUME CARE: Your costume is now your responsibility. Keep it hung up and out of reach. If your costume is wrinkled use a steamer to relax the fabric or hang up the costume in the bathroom upside down while running a hot shower. The steam will help with the tulle of the tutus. DO NOT IRON THE COSTUMES. Do not trust the plastic barrette hair pieces-use additional bobby pins to hold them in place. Make sure you have all costume accessories-do not lose them! REMINDERS: • Bring your picture envelopes with payment to the dress rehearsal; these will be turned in directly to the photographers • Tickets are on sale at www.dancequestdance.com • Pictures and video are not allowed during the recitals (dress rehearsal only) • LABEL ALL OF YOUR POSESSIONS (costumes, shoes, tights, etc) .
