Road to & 2021 Africa FIBA Competition System: 2017-2021 Cycle • Over a four-year cycle (2017-2021), national teams will play 2017 regular home and away games to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and the FIBA AfroBasket Cup 2021 is the start • 16 teams in Africa will play the FIBA Basketball of the new FIBA World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers while all remaining Competition System registered teams will play the FIBA AfroCan 2019 Qualifiers & Calendar • The FIBA AfroCan 2019 Qualifiers will take place during the same windows as the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers, starting in November 2017. They will qualify for the FIBA AfroCan 2019, a new competition taking place in the summer of 2019 • The FIBA AfroBasket Cup 2021 Qualifiers will start in November 2019 to qualify 16 teams to FIBA AfroBasket Cup 2021. • For the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers, there will be 80 teams from the four regions of Africa, Americas, Europe and Asia which will include Oceania • Home and away games will be played in six windows to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 with tournaments for Africa in the First Round. • Each window will be 9 days long, beginning on a Monday and finishing on the following Tuesday • FIBA Basketball World Cup: 32 teams: China (Host Country) + 7 from Asia region + 5 teams from Africa + 7 from the Americas + 12 from Europe The FIBA Basketball World Cup will qualify teams for the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 directly (7 teams) or through the 4 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2020.
