Charlatan is by Speightstown out of Authenticity, by Quiet American. In a performance that had the racing world abuzz in the second day of this year’s Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland Nov. 7, Nashville powered to a three-and-a-half-length victory in the $125,000 Perryville Stakes, stopping the clock at 1:07.80 for six furlongs and thus earning a solid 102 Beyer Speed figure—two points less than Whitmore’s 104 Beyer in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint over the same surface that day. Collusion Illusion is a son of Twirling Candy out of Natalie Grace, by First Dude and was bred by Donald R. Dizney LLC. The bay colt’s graded victories include the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar in August, the Laz Barrera Stakes (G3) in June at Santa Anita and the 2019 Best Pal Stakes (G2) at Del Mar. Also among those also listed as probable for the Malibu are the John Shirreffs-trained Express Train, the Michael McCarthy- trained Independence Hall and Doug O’Neill’s Strongconstitution.
