The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which has taken up the work at an estimated cost of Rs 184 crore for what is being considered as the country’s longest such facility, plans to get the cable bridge ready by March next year. While the country’s longest cable bridge presently is the one at Bharuch, Gujarat, spanning 144 metres, the facility over Durgam Cheruvu is designed to stretch for 754.38 metres. Works related to foundations and sub-structures have already been completed while the construction of the super structure was moving at a rapid pace, GHMC officials said. The bridge, which once in place promises to reduce the travel distance between Madhapur and Jubilee Hills and ease traffic congestion in the IT corridor, already has 13 foundations and 12 pillars. GHMC officials said the first segment reinforcement process for the main bridge was in progress. For the city’s first cable bridge, the civic body had specially flown in stay-cables from Austria. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said precast works for the 25 metre long and 6.5 metre high main bridge were going on at Kondapur. Officials pointed out that once the new facility takes shape, it would address traffic woes on Jubilee Hills Road No 36 and Madhapur. Also, for motorists travelling from Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills towards Mindspace and Gachibowli, the cable bridge would cut down travel distance by 2 km. Tenders floated for flyovers Meanwhile, GHMC floated international tenders for six flyovers and grade separators costing an estimated Rs 1,421.70 crore to be built as part of the Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) in the city. The works for which bids have been invited cover different parts of the city including Nanalnagar, Gachibowli, Nehru Zoological Park and Indira Park. Proposed projects Flyover from Rethibowli junction to Nanalnagar, underpass at Nanalnagar: Rs.133.28 crore Six lane two-way flyover from Kondapur to ORR, flyover from Gachibowli Junction to Silpa Layout: Rs.203.31 crore Six lane grade separator from Aramghar to Zoo Park: Rs.348.07 crore, Corridor development from Nalgonda crossroads to Owaisi Junction: Rs.298.49 crore, Four lane bi-directional elevated corridor from Indira Park to VST main road: Rs.352.55 crore. .
