Students will analyze characters and themes to comprehend and analyze a variety of historical fiction and poetry. Students will compare texts, from various time periods, by focusing on the exploits of the main characters and/or of the time period and identifying universal truths and lessons learned about humankind. In this process, students will interpret and compare themes and synthesize thinking in summaries and responses to demonstrate a deep reading of texts. Students will identify, define and make meaning of figurative language to help support comprehension.
