Guidelines for Roommate Assignments for College-Sponsored Instruction Related and Student Activities Travel

GUIDELINES FOR ROOMMATE ASSIGNMENTS FOR COLLEGE-SPONSORED INSTRUCTION RELATED AND STUDENT ACTIVITIES TRAVEL The following guidelines are more applicable in typical dormitory or hotel room situations and may not be effective or appropriate in group lodging situations such as in shelters, cabins or tents. These guidelines apply to three or fewer students sharing a room. 1. Participants may choose their own roommates by mutual agreement, provided they are the same gender identity. 2. To preserve order, the trip supervisor may reassign roommates at any time during the trip. 3. The age difference between minors sharing a room with each other must be less than two years. 4. Married participants may room together, regardless of gender identity or age difference; so may siblings; parents, stepparents and guardians with their children and/or stepchildren as long as it does not disrupt other students. 5. No adult may room with a minor, unless a spouse, parent, stepparent, or sibling, except as provided in number 4 above. The age of minority is dependent on local law, except in no case shall be under 18 for the purposes of this guide. 6. Should a participant decide not to choose a roommate, the trip supervisor may select a roommate, matching similar gender identities. 7. Participants with disabilities, whose approved accommodations require a single room or other unique housing arrangements, shall receive first priority for such arrangements. 8. Any participant may receive single room occupancy upon request, provided there is sufficient housing available and provided the participant pays for any additional costs incurred. 9. No employee or agent of the college, or other official or authority figure, may room with a participant, unless a spouse, parent, stepparent, guardian or sibling. 10. No participant shall be required to share a bed. 11. Registered sex offenders who are permitted to attend the trip pursuant to CCS Administrative Procedure 2.30.05-M may be restricted to single room occupancy and/or other housing restrictions and shall incur any additional cost associated with such restriction.
