It is not thought necessary in the following pages to give the succession of the Archdeacons of b e fu Dublin , which will found , with ll biographical ’ ’ P at k H ist r o S t . ric s notes , in Mason s o y f , and in ’ ’ e ce e icce Cotton s Fastt Eccl si t m . So far as is of r possible , the succession their cu ates who have had charge of the parish is given ; but owing to the diocesan records not being at present accessible , it is very incomplete until the end of the eighteenth rds reco . century , when the parish Tbegin Before that time the parish only enj oyed the ministrations of curates who had other churches to serve in the ’ Archdeacon s corps . In the chapter upon the antiquities of the parish will be found an account of the ancient Deanery of Taney ; the modern rural deanery is of much 180 2 smaller extent . It will be noticed that the name of the parish is spelled in many different ways in the following a p ges ;the rule which has been observed is , when quoting from any document, to follow the peculiar l spe ling found in it . This observation also applies to the names of the other places mentioned . C H A P T E R I I . A N TI QU ITIES . of HE Parish Taney , as an ecclesiastical estab li hm ent of s , has survived the vicissitudes many centuries ; and there seems little room for doubt , although we cannot point to a noble edifice erected - of by the master builders the middle ages , that the worship of God has been conducted in this place since before the English conquest of Ireland 2 in 1 17 . But the parish seems not to have been the earliest ecclesiastical establishment to which the name of Taney was attached . 11 2 When Cardinal Paparo visited Ireland in 5 , one f he found , it is said, that Taney was o the or ch ore ISCO ates rural sees , p p , which then existed , and which were taken as the extent of the j urisdic Arch re sb ters - tion of the p y rural , who supplanted rural bishops , and who were the predecessors Of our * present Rural Deans . There is no doubt that the Rural Deanery of f Taney was o great extent in ancient times . 1 2 94 About , there was a new taxation of the of Po e Diocese Dublin for the p , and the total sum ’ Dan e H D ani R u s s m e ec cce ales .
