INTERCHANGE-TUNNEL KVANJ Habitats, Vegetation and Invasive Plant Species 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Project background In June 2020 ENOVA was commissioned to undertake Environmental and Social Assessment for EBRD: Lenders Advisory Services for Bosnia and Herzegovina Corridor Vc in FBiH –part 3 (Tranche II), relating to the Corridor Vc subsection Mostar South-Tunnel Kvanj. The results of the previous gap analysis for biodiversity found that supplementary biodiversity information would be required, so that an informed assessment of sensitive habitats and biodiversity features could be undertaken. The supplementary information has been gathered through both rapid field surveys and an up-to-date desk study. The following field surveys have been undertaken and will form an Annex to the final Environmental and Social Assessment Report: § Annex A: Habitats, vegetation and invasive species § Annex B: Invertebrates § Annex C: Vertebrates o Annex C-1: Fish (desk study) o Annex C-2: Herpetology (amphibians and reptiles) o Annex C-3: Ornithology o Annex C-4: Mammals – Bats o Annex C-5: Mammals – Large mammals (desk study). This report provides the results of the habitats, vegetation and invasive plant species field survey. 1.2 Site locations According to the Preliminary Design1, the 9.2 km long subsection Mostar South-Tunnel Kvanj is the northern part of the Section Mostar South-Buna. The subsection begins with the Mostar South interchange and ends with the entrance into Tunnel Kvanj. The interchange is located near the Mostar Airport, and represents the intersection of the motorway with the existing main road M6.1 by connecting the motorway. After the interchange, the alignment is located in the immediate vicinity of the Mostar Airport where a tunnel (Mostar Jug Tunnel L= 232 m) beneath the airport is envisaged to accommodate the development of an additional runway. After exiting this tunnel, the alignment follows the existing railway Mostar-Capljina in a very narrow 32 m corridor to the south. After the interchange, the route passes parallel with the Mostar Airport runway towards settlement Ortijes, Laksevine and Kosor. The alignment then follows the auxiliary airport runway at a distance of 35-45m, crossing agricultural fields in Ortijes. The subsection further crosses the Buna River by Buna Bridge (L=326m), passes through agriculture areas of Malo Polje, crosses the Bunica River with a bridge (L=211m) and a viaduct (Viaduct Brijeg L=258 m) which leads to the Hodbina Hill and further to the entrance of Tunnel Kvanj.2 The subsection ends at chainage 9+125+000 km. 1.3 Report aim and objectives The main aim of this assignment is to provide a written report to inform the ESIA Disclosure Package and Biodiversity Management Plan. In order to achieve this aim, this report has been written to satisfy the following objectives: § Provide the methodology and results of the rapid field survey 1 Preliminary Design and Study for Obtaining Urban Permit for the Motorway Section on Corridor Vc, Mostar South-Buna, developed in April 2018 by IPSA Institute Sarajevo 2 Tunnel Kvanj is not part of the subsection Mostar South-Tunnel Kvanj 3 CORRIDOR Vc IN FBIH: SECTION MOSTAR SOUTH INTERCHANGE-TUNNEL KVANJ Habitats, Vegetation and Invasive Plant Species § Evaluate project area and project area of influence for the likely presence of sensitive species/species of conservation concern § Recommend preconstruction surveys, additional mitigation and/or monitoring only if required. 2 METHODOLOGY 2.1 Survey background The survey was conducted by Nermina Sarajlic, MSc, PhD student of botany and plant ecology who currently works as an ecologist in Ornithological Society “Nase ptice”. She participated in numerous projects and studies on plant ecology in Bosnia and Herzegovina, mostly for urban habitats, alien plant species as well as plant ecology in karst regions and wetlands. The field survey was undertaken on 3-5 June 2020. On June 3, the weather was warm, with slight rain in the afternoon. On June 4, it was warm and sunny, and on June 5, it was moderate in the morning, with heavy rain in the afternoon and evening. 2.2 Methodology The vegetation surveys were undertaken on 32 sample points (Figure 1). For each sample point, GPS coordinates were recorded by NAVIGON mobile application, where present plant species and the type of vegetation were identified. The species were identified in the field, or, if that was not possible, specimens were collected and/or photographed in detail, to be identified later using the relevant botanical literature.
