Studley road issues on the agenda Warwickshire County Council is listening to local concerns in Studley around traffic on the A435 main road through the village. In response to those local concerns, Warwickshire County Council recently commissioned an HGV origin and destination survey along the A435 corridor between M42 Junction 3 and Alcester. Transport consultants Atkins analysed the survey results and undertook a study outlining possible options for reducing the impact of HGV traffic on the A435. Atkins presented their draft findings and recommendations to a stakeholder meeting in July this year. Local MPs Nadhim Zahawi and Rachel Maclean along with representatives from Warwickshire and Worcestershire County Councils, Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Redditch Borough Council, Studley, Mappleborough Green and Sambourne Parish Councils and Highways England, all came together to hear the findings and start to discuss what could be done. A public engagement event is to be held on Friday 3rd November at Studley High School between 5.30pm and 8pm to share the findings of the study with the local community. Stratford-on-Avon MP Nadhim Zahawi has offered to chair the event which will include a presentation of study findings by Atkins and an overview of potential next steps. There will be an opportunity for people to ask questions and to input into priority areas and ideas for future work. Cllr Jeff Clarke, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Environment at Warwickshire County Council said: “The Atkins study has considered a range of options for addressing the traffic and environmental problems experienced by local communities along the A435 corridor. “The study identifies which options are most likely to be deliverable in the light of evidence from the HGV surveys and our aim now is to engage with local people so that they can help us identify which options should be worked up.” Cllr Peter Richards, Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Portfolio Holder for Housing and Infrastructure Projects, said: “We are committed to working with our partner authorities in both Warwickshire and Worcestershire to identify appropriate traffic management measures with the aim of improving the quality of life for the residents of Studley and other villages along the A435 corridor. “With an Air Quality Management Area in place around Studley village, this study couldn’t come at a more appropriate time.” Nadhim Zahawi, MP for Stratford upon Avon, said: “I’m encouraged by the Atkins report and the commitment shown by the various local authorities and parish councils in the area to work together to make things better for local residents. “This upcoming meeting will be a chance for people to provide feedback on the study recommendations and the work we’ve done so far and help to shape how the next stage of the work progresses.” .
