Despite those challenges, Dallas CASA reached its 40th anniversary with the capacity to continue serving 100% of our community’s child victims of abuse and neglect. For the last two years, Dallas CASA has been able to accept all appointments from the 10 courts presiding over Dallas County child welfare cases. We are sitting under a tree that many before us planted decades ago. But our goals do not involve growth alone. Dallas CASA is committed to being a lead convener of collaborative efforts to improve the system, with stronger investments in family preservation and abuse prevention. Even with the tremendous difference our advocates make in the life of a child, outcomes for children in foster care, particularly those who age out of the system, are discouraging. Too many young people exiting foster care become homeless, incarcerated or unemployed, while others fall victim to sex trafficking and addiction. This reality has motivated Dallas CASA to increase its dedication to helping children achieve positive permanency earlier, with added emphasis on finding caring relatives who can provide lasting support when reunification with parents is not possible. With our participation in the Legacy Court drug and alcohol treatment program, we also are helping to increase the likelihood that children of parents in recovery will be able to return home. None of this work would be possible without your generous support. While event revenue shrank to 17% of overall revenue in 2020, generous individual gifts – including our first ever legacy gift of more than $1 million – allowed us to avoid staff reductions and to maintain our high quality advocacy services. We are immensely grateful for your continued support as we look ahead to challenges that will likely continue in 2021. While we may not sit under the trees we are planting today, your efforts are creating a better future for child INSIDE victims who will have their voices heard, their needs met, and their dreams realized thanks to you.
