MEIKLE CAREWE WIND FARM Construction Newsletter 2 January 2013 Welcome to the second edition of the Meikle Carewe Wind Farm newsletter NETHERLEY from RES – providing the community with an update on construction. A90 A957 B979 Work at Meikle Carewe Wind Farm is progressing well. The next milestone will be the delivery of the wind turbines. These will start arriving at the site during the week commencing 21st Fetteresso Forest A90 January 2013 and will continue for a period of approximately four weeks. STONEHAVEN Following close consultation with Angus Council, Aberdeenshire Council, Tayside Police and Grampian Police, RES has revised the delivery route for the turbines. This change has been made in light of the turbine supplier Gamesa delivering turbines to another wind farm nearby. A90 A92 The new delivery route sees turbines coming into Montrose and then travelling up the A92. By working together with Gamesa and the local authorities the deliveries to the two wind farms require only one route and the distance the turbines need to travel by road is reduced – thereby INVERBEVIE minimising the potential for any disruption for road users. LAURENCEKIRK The turbines will be transported in sections (blades, two tower sections, hubs and nacelles) using specially designed heavy goods vehicles. The nacelles are the boxlike structures at the top of the tower, which house the gear box and generator. Most days during the delivery period there will A92 A937 be up to two convoys leaving Montrose. The first will leave at approximately 9:30am and the second following 30 minutes later with travel time between port and site of approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The deliveries will take place Monday to Friday, with an occasional Delivery Route delivery on Saturday. As we are using large delivery vehicles each convoy will have a dedicated MONTROSE escort to ensure the safety of all road users. What’s been happening? Since we last contacted you, we’ve been busy undertaking a lot of work in preparation for the delivery of the wind turbines. l The concrete foundations for all 12 turbines are in place. The areas that were excavated are being filled in and landscaped. l Almost 5.5 kilometres (3.4 miles) of on-site tracks have been created from the site entrance to all the turbine locations. l A successful dry run to check the new delivery route in preparation for the turbine components arriving on site took place in November. l A reseeding process of heather harvested from the site earlier in the year is underway to ensure the areas of disturbed ground start to blend back in with the surrounding environment. Keeping you informed The delivery days for the turbine components each week are subject to change as factors such as varying weather conditions play a part in when we can undertake deliveries. If you have any specific questions about deliveries please email: [email protected], putting ‘Meikle Carewe Delivery Notifications’ in the subject line, and we will be happy to provide you with up-to-date information.
