GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *145 TO BE ANSWERED ON 02.03.2020 RESTORATION OF MUGHAL ERA BARRAGE IN FATEHPUR SIKRI *145. SHRI RAJ KUMAR CHAHAR: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) whether on the lines of the Mughal-era drain being restored near Red Fort, Delhi to make efficient use of rain-water in the moat surrounding the fort, Archeological Survey of India (ASI) proposes to draft and implement such a project in Fatehpur Sikri and the Fort there; (b) whether ASI is also aware that a Mughal period barrage with the name of '13 Mori' which existed behind the Akbar Fort at Fatehpur Sikri is in a dilapidated state; (c) whether the Government has any plans to make this barrage functional again and to develop it as a tourist destination in addition to supplying water to the fields; and (d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) to (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *145 FOR 02.03.2020. (a) The conservation work at different sites is monument specific and the essential conservation work at Fatehpur Sikri including Fort is also attended regularly by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as per the availability of the resources and requirements of the site. No traces of underground system, like Red Fort, Delhi, for use of rain water, were seen at Fatehpur Sikri, hence there is no such proposal. (b) Yes, Sir, ’13 Mori’ is a protected monument of ASI at Fatehpur Sikri for which conservation work is attended regularly and it is in a good state of preservation. (c) & (d) Presently, there is no such proposal .
