A 6/28/02 Report For The Towns of: Upper-Cape Region • Bourne • Falmouth • Mashpee • Sandwich The Human Condition 2001 Project IRORF – Rev. A 6/28/02 2-1 Upper-Cape LIMITATIONS OF THESE DATA The findings contained in the next four pages result from a survey of Upper-Cape residents conducted in Spring/Summer 2001 (“Household Survey”). One in every 48 Upper-Cape households was surveyed. While researchers made every attempt to survey a random sample of residents, there is no guarantee that these findings are representative of all Upper-Cape residents. Thus, the reader should consider these data to be indicators of the human condition in the Upper-Cape region. IRORF - Rev. A 6/28/02 2-2 Upper-Cape ** RESIDENT SURVEY RESULTS ** FOR UPPER-CAPE COD REGION RESIDENT SURVEY RESPONSES: Of the Upper-Cape households randomly selected for participation in The Human Condition 2001 Household Survey, 703 completed and returned the survey questionnaire. This number represents 28% of the total number of surveys collected across Barnstable County. A detailed Socio-Demographic Profile of the 703 Upper-Cape households sampled is provided in Appendix 2.B. The following two sections summarize the perspectives of these Upper- Cape households concerning important social issues, potential problem areas, and barriers to access to needed human services. RESIDENT PERSPECTIVES: Household-Level Issues: Upper-Cape respondents included on their list of problems (“household issues”) all twelve of the issues from the County’s Top Twelve Household Issues list, but in a considerably different rank order. Issues of not having adequate time for recreational activities and having trouble finding time to spend with spouse/partner appear to be of a higher priority in the Upper-Cape region than across the County as a whole.
