MAISON LOUIS JADOT MÂCONNAIS AND BEAUJOLAIS WINES Chablis 2014 REGION: France / Burgundy / Chablis GRAPES: 100% Chardonnay Chablis is located in the northern part of Burgundy, halfway between Dijon and Paris. The continental climate brings very cold temperatures in winter followed by spring frosts and hot summers. These conditions and the marly limestone soils combine to mold the unique character of Chablis wines. The grapes are handpicked and sorted, then gently pressed and fermented without artificial temperature control. Partial or no malolactic fermentation is permitted based on the vintage, and the wine is aged eight months in French oak. Fining and filtration is light. The goal is always to retain the wine’s complexity and structure. HARVEST NOTE The 2014 growing season got off to a great start in Burgundy and finished strong, though July and August were rainy and cool. After a mild winter, spring was dry and warm. Flowering was early. High temperatures caused some millerandage (a combination of normal berries and small, seedless berries with thick skins.) Conditions were very dry until a big hailstorm in June. Fine weather returned in September, and warm temperatures ripened the grapes rapidly. In the end there was no rot and moderate sorting, mostly where hail had damaged some grapes. The Beaujolais shows good colors and ripe fruit flavors. TASTING NOTE The wine is pristine, bright and fresh with high acidity and citrus and mineral aromas and flavors. FOOD PAIRING Delicious with oysters, charcuterie, fried fish and goat cheese.
