2020-2021 Scholarship Opportunities Scholarship Name Scholarship Description This scholarship is being created in the memory of Albert L. Crayton, a Vietnam war veteran who suffered from PTSD as a result of his service in the United States Air Force. Albert felt those who were afflicted with trauma from their service time were unable to access necessary supports Albert L. Crayton needed to handle the transition from military life back into the community. He also felt that it was Memorial Scholarship even more difficult to receive help if these supports were needed later in life rather than right after discharge. This scholarship will go to an individual who desires a pursuit of change in the mental health community for those who have served their country, along with many others who suffer from mental health issues daily. Angel Flores Memorial Angel Flores was just beginning high school when he was struck by a car. He loved life, his Scholarship family and school. He wanted to make his parents proud and set a good example for his sisters. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating AVID senior who has been in the AVID system at AVID Scholarship least three years. The student must have a record of leadership in AVID or in another school organization, and plan to attend a 4-year college or university. This scholarship was established in 2015 in memory of Dalton Debrick by The B.I.G. D.O.G.S. Youth Organization and his family. Dalton was a 2014 graduate of Nimitz High School who was B.I.G.D.O.G.S active in youth sports in the Irving community for over 13 years, including the B.I.G. D.O.G.S. Organization Organization. This scholarship is awarded to a male graduating Nimitz senior. The student must Scholarship in Memory have been involved in at least four consecutive years in City of Irving and/or YMCA Sports. The of Dalton Debrick student must demonstrate academic success by holding a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have given back to the Irving community. Banking on America This scholarship was established in 1994 by Bank of America and is awarded to a graduating Scholarship senior who plans to pursue a business-related course of study at a college or university. Over forty-five plus years, Barbara Cardwell served the Irving ISD school district, faculty, staff, and students in a myriad of ways culminating in her twenty-one years of service as an Irving ISD Board of Trustee, with the highest quality of education services for the students of Irving ISD as Barbara Cardwell Future her driving force. Mrs. Cardwell knew that securing top-notch educators was necessary to of Education achieve excellence. In continued support of the students of Irving ISD and to encourage students Scholarship to consider teaching as a profession, the Barbara Cardwell Future of Education Scholarship was established to assist an Irving ISD senior intending to pursue a college degree and certification to teach. The Barton Alumni Scholarship has been established by the faculty and staff of Barton Barton Alumni Elementary School and is awarded to a graduating senior who attended Barton for more than Scholarship three years. This scholarship is awarded to four graduating students who demonstrate a demonstrate good character as evidenced in at least two letters of recommendation, and have actively participated in community activities or community service during his/her high school years. The student must BBCPC teachers feel that their students are worthy of winning scholarships but they have a BCCPC Scholarship harder time qualifying for all the Foundation scholarships, hence, we can award our own. 2020-2021 Scholarship Opportunities Beatrice Ponce Garcia This scholarship is awarded to a graduating Irving High School Hispanic senior with a minimum Scholarship GPA of 85% who plans to pursue a college or university degree in education. Bioworld Foundation This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to attend the University of Texas at Scholarship Arlington. Established by Ed Farrow, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating female senior from Nimitz Bobby Lindamood High School who will be attending Dallas Baptist University. The student must also have a Scholarship for Girls minimum of a B average. Awarded to a graduating senior who singularly attended Britain Elementary School, Britain Mustangs demonstrates community service, submitted three letters of recommendation, and has a GPA of Scholarship 3.0 or higher. The recipient of this scholarship must have attended Lively in 3rd- 5th grade, held a minimum Bryan Esstman GPA of 3.0 as well as demonstrated service to others through community service or Scholarship philanthropy. Carolyn and David Yarborough Scholarship Chandra Maxey This scholarship was created to honor Chandra Maxey, long time Science teacher and leader at Scholarship BBCPC. In memory of all the love Christina showed all the children she met, the staff and students at TJ Lee established the Christina Mainard Memorial Scholarship. They were touched by Christina Christina Mainard Mainard’s commitment to educating all students while a Special Education Life Teaching Memorial Scholarship Assistant. She was driven to provide the best educational opportunities for her students. Although her life ended tragically early, she influenced many children and made a positive difference in the lives of all she knew. Clint Roddy Athletic The recipient of this scholarship must have participated in high school athletics, hold a 3.0 GPA, Scholarship and have at least 50 documented hours of community service. Coach Pam Owens Awarded to a female student from Nimitz High School who is a basketball player, trainer, or Memorial Scholarship manager during their senior year. Must be pursuing a certification or degree in higher education. The Credit Union of Texas-Jerry Christian Spirit of Achievement Scholarship was established to Credit Union of recognize retired Assistant Superintendent Jerry Christian for his long-term service and Texas-Jerry Christian dedication to Irving ISD, the Irving ISD Board of Trustees, and the Credit Union of Texas Board Spirit of Achievement of Directors. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Irving ISD senior with a GPA of 2.5 Scholarship or higher and over 200 hours of community service. Crockett Middle School Established by the faculty and staff at Crockett Middle School, this scholarship is to be awarded Scholarship to a graduating senior who attended Crockett Middle School. Awarded to a graduating senior who attended Lamar Middle Schools for at least one year, has Crystal Graham served a minimum of 150 hours of community service and maintained an attendance record of Scholarship 90% or better. This scholarship is awarded to a senior who attended Bowie Middle School and has been directly Cubbies Against Cancer involved with someone who has been diagnosed with cancer (self, relative, friend). The student must also be in financial need. D-UP for Deebs Established in 2015 in memory of Dalton “Deebs” Debrick, a 2014 Nimitz graduate who passed Scholarship in Memory away his first week of college at Texas Tech, this scholarship is awarded to a male graduating of Dalton August Nimitz senior who intends to pursue a degree in education to teach and coach. Deborah George The Deborah George Scholarship for GT Mathematics was established in honor of Deborah Scholarship for GT George for her retirement from Irving ISD and is awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing Mathematics a STEM degree and participated in Gifted and Talented classes. This scholarship is awarded to four graduating seniors from four unique IISD High Schools who Dr. Pepper Scholarship plan to pursue a degree or additional education at a technical institute, college or university. Dr. Richard Bates Established in 1987 in memory of Dr. Richard Bates, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating Scholarship senior who plans to major in education or pre-med. Eddie Vernon The recipient of this scholarship must be a graduate of Barbara Cardwell Career Preparatory Scholarship Center or Irving High School and have been through hardship/trials and shown perseverance. Erika and German This scholarship is awarded to a Hispanic senior seeking a major in education or music with an Clouet Memorial overall average of 85%.
