Oh, wait—we were! Once again, Merry Christmas to all of you. I hope that your celebraon of the big day was enjoyable and peaceful. My family and I were together, the first Christmas without our Mom. It was nice. Different. But very nice. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, especially those of you who are celebrang a first holiday season without a loved one. This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. I think we all know that family is probably our greatest gi, although, at mes, it brings its challenges. There is a certain grace in imperfecon. This was one of Saint Paul’s constant mantras, and even the poet, Ernest Hemingway, said it, “Life breaks us all, but some are made stronger in the broken places.” This is uniquely so when it comes to family. Sll, I don’t know where I’d be without my family. I pray each day for yours and mine. I pray for good health, protecon, and happiness. As we come to this feast day this year, I might suggest that we pray for a greater openness to one another in family, not only during the fun and easy mes, but in those moments of misunderstanding and pain. What makes a family genuinely holy is the willingness to see and embrace the Christ in one another. Sincerely, Fr. We have submitted our Annual Conference Report for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2020 to the Parish Office and the St. Vincent de Paul Diocesan Council. During the year, 67 active, associate and contributing Vincentians visited with 35 families consisting of 125 individuals to provide financial, nutritional and spiritual assistance. We provided food 217 times and other services 67 times. We also provided 185 food boxes and frozen turkeys during 2019 Thanksgiving and Christmas with 140 toys. In March, we emptied our food pantry and donated 66 boxes of food to the Shepard’s Market at St. John’s United Methodist Church. We serve an average of 15 neighbors weekly on Monday nights until March 2020. In March we continued to provide financial and spiritual assistance by phone. Cherye Roussel, Anne George and Tom Randolph went above the call of service by consistently answering the call of our neighbors. We are extremely grateful for their untiring service. Your donations of $60,250.50 throughout the year and from Souper Bowl of Caring, along with the St. Jude School’s food and toy drives, allowed us to provide the above services to our neighbors in need throughout the year. We provided $13.741.00 in rental assistance and $30,411.42 in utilities assistance. The conference also provided $4,800.00 to St. Vincent de Paul Special Works, which is the Shelter, Pharmacy and Dining Hall, to assist others throughout the Diocese. The conference contributed $2,281.00 to the Diocesan Council and $800.00 for our twinning partner in India. Our operating expenses were $641.00 for telephone, stamps and supplies. The St. Jude Conference members, without using the above funds, prepared and served dinner twice times at the Bishop Ott and Sweet Dreams homeless shelters. Until March, a small group of Vincentians picked up bread, pastries and food from various retailers for the St. Vincent de Paul kitchen. Vincentians also serve on prison ministry teams to provide monthly communion at Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola and Hunt Regional Corrections Center in St. Gabriel. Recognizing a need for long term skills building, in April, we began providing a 12-month money management spreadsheet to our neighbors needing financial assistance.
