EARLY ATHLETIC LETTERING POLICY ALL SPORTS The athlete must maintain a good attitude and athletic image in gaining respect of the coaches and teammates. It may be possible for a coach to letter an athlete in a special situation such as an injury or illness where had this not happened he/she would have lettered. All equipment issued to the athlete must have been returned or payment made for the replacement of the equipment. BASEBALL-BASKETBALL-FOOTBALL-SOFTBALL-TEAM MANAGERS An athlete participating in one of the above sports needs the following to letter: 1. An athlete completes the season on the varsity team as a member in good standing. 2. An athlete makes substantial contributions to the varsity effort for a major part of the season. CROSS COUNTRY-POWERLIFTING-TENNIS-GOLF-TRACK An athlete participating in the above sports may letter for one of the following: 1. Being a regional qualified. 2. The athlete has competed in the sport for three years with at least the final year on varsity. 3. An athlete makes substantial contributions to the varsity effort for a major part of the season. BAND Every band member is eligible to letter in band during each year he/she is in the organization. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria. 1. Attend all required band functions and performances with no unexcused absences. 2. Abide by all rules of conduct and policy as stated in the EHS handbook and EHS band handbook. 3. During the school year, complete THREE from the list below: Audition for an All-Region Band Be Selected for an All-Region Band Perform at UIL Solo/Ensemble Contest Earn a 1st Division at UIL Solo/Ensemble Contest Qualify for State at any competition (ex. All-State Band, Solo and Ensemble, etc.) 4. Additionally, a student that has not earned a letter through the paths mentioned above may earn a letter jacket by participating in the high school band for four years. Students meeting this qualification will be measured for and receive their jacket at the end of their Junior Year. CHEERLEADING-DRILL TEAM Varsity Cheerleaders or Drill Team members after finishing their first year in good standing, will be eligible to receive a letter jacket. CHOIR Choral Students must earn 10 points for a letter jacket. Students are not eligible for a letter jacket until high school. Choral lettering point policy is as follows: High School membership for 1 year: 1 point Each additional year: 2 points Major role in a musical: 2 points Texas All-State Choir: 1 point District Honor Choir: 1 point UIL Solo and Ensemble: 1 point for each entry (with two possible) State UIL Solo and Ensemble: same as district UIL Concert and Sight-Reading: 2 point for each sweepstakes award ACADEMIC UIL A student participating in UIL Academic events may qualify for a letter for one of the following: Being a regional qualifier A student who has competed three years at the District UIL literary meet. ONE-ACT PLAY A student participating in One Act Play may qualify for a letter upon completing one of the following: Advancing beyond district A student is selected as Best Actor/Actress or to the All-Star Cast at the district contest A student who has competed three years at the District UIL One-Act Play contest FFA The FFA Member must have been an active member for a minimum of 2 years to b e eligible for a letter jacket. This would allow a freshman to become eligible at the end of their sophomore year. A total of 10 points must be gained with proper documentation accruing after the beginning of the student’s freshman year to earn a letter jacket. Early ISD will buy the letterman’s jacket. The student is responsible for any other patches (i.e. name, club patches, other arm patches, etc…). The student will be responsible for keeping up with all documentation and a check sheet. The student will also be responsible for bringing documentation to the attention of the advisor when it is time to check on jacket eligibility. Point system: Early FFA Officer: 2 points Run for District Office: 1 point Become District Officer: 2 point Run for Area Office: 1 point Become Area Officer: 3 points Run for State Office: 3 points Become State Officer: 10 points State Degree Recipient: 5 points State Proficiency Finalist: 4 points State Proficiency Winner: 8 points LDE’s/Speaking Participate: 1 point LDE’s/Speaking Area Level: 2 points LDE’s/Speaking State Level: 4 points LDE’s/Speaking State top 3: 5 points CDE’s Participate: 1 point CDE Area Level: 2 points CDE State Level: 4 point CDE State Top 3: 5 points Attending an official function in official FFA dress: .5 per activity Chairperson of a Committee: 1 point Leadership Camp Attendance: 1 point State Convention: 2 points Area Convention: 1 point District Convention: 1 point Stock Show Participant: 1 point BCYF Class Winner (Mech/Animal): 2 points BCYF Reserve Champion (Mech/Animal): 2 points BCYF Grand Champion (Mech/Animal): 3 points Major Show Class Winner (Mech/Animal): 3 points Major Show Reserve Champion: 4 points Major Show Grand Champion: 5 points Major Show Breed Champion: 3 points Major Ag Mech Blue Ribbon: 2 points Major Ag Mech Division Top 3: 4 points ART A student will letter only if they advance to area judging or higher in Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). .
