ACE (American Council on Education) Leadership Academy for Department Chairs, July 2012 ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE Associate Dean for External Affairs & Community Engagement, College of Health, Ball State University, July 2016-present The College of Health was established in July 2016 and includes the following units: Departments of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology, & Counseling; Nutrition & Health Science; Social Work; Speech Pathology & Audiology; Schools of Kinesiology & Nursing. The Associate Dean for External Affairs and Community Engagement is one of three associate deans for the College of Health (CoH). Responsibilities include: Provide strategic leadership and managerial oversight of activities related to external partners and community engagement for the CoH o Coordinated participation at the BSU Day at the Statehouse, including engagement of student leaders D. Seabert Page | 2 o Planning Committee for Community Connect of Delaware County –a one day, one stop opportunity to provide critical services and hospitality directly to our most vulnerable community members who rely on community and government programs-homeless, near homeless and working poor. CoH programs will play a key role in providing health, intake, and data collection services. Collaborate with CoH leadership (dean’s office, chairs group, etc.) and additional BSU campus constituencies (Business Affairs, Office of the General Council, Foundation, Office of Community Engagement, Office of Extended Education, Career Services, etc.) to move key initiatives forward Provide oversight for the process of establishment, integration, and maintenance of agreements (e.g., MOUs) for student placements for clinicals, internships, practicums, etc., for all CoH academic programs. o Established new partnerships with local and regional healthcare facilities and hospitals Collaborate with University Marketing & Communications to promote academic programs, faculty, and students to external constituencies; develop communication materials (newsletters, websites, social media, etc.) for both internal and external distribution o Initiated and manage the social media efforts for the CoH o Facilitate an efficient and effective college/department web redesign o Develop and implement a college marketing and communications plan Assist the Dean, CoH Development Director, and the Foundation to facilitate philanthropic opportunities with external partners Collaborate with Office of Community Engagement to promote CoH immersive learning opportunities with community partners, and facilitate matching of community needs with faculty expertise o Facilitate the CoH Immersive Learning Think Tank faculty group Collaborate with CoH departments and Career Services to enhance placement of CoH students/alumni o Initiated a Health & Human Services corridor at the job fair with more than 30 employers o Facilitated advisor and faculty engagement at the job fair to increase student success Assist the Dean and Alumni Office with coordinating alumni events/fund raising; Liaise with academic units and Alumni Association to establish CoH alumni network o Initiated the inaugural CoH Alumni Day bringing back alumni to engage with students through academic programs, student organizations, and professional development sessions o Established and facilitate a student leadership advisory council Contribute to student, faculty, and college success o Initiated a college committee to submit a grant/program plan for a first year experience for CoH students to enhance the student experience, improve time to graduation outcomes, address student mental health challenges, and enhance advising for students and change of major success Represent the College on the following University committees and task forces: o Centennial Planning Committee o Strategic Enrollment Planning Committee, Marketing & Recruitment Subcommittee o Web Advisory Council Provide leadership to allied health programs in the Department of Nutrition & Health Sciences o Radiography Program – Executive Committee; Advisory Committee o Respiratory Therapy Consortium Program – Executive Committee; Advisory Committee Chairperson, Department of Physiology & Health Science, Ball State University, 2012-2016 The Department of Physiology & Health Science (now Dept of Nutrition & Health Science) included two associate degree allied health programs, three bachelor’s programs, and one master’s program; employed 19 faculty members, 9 graduate assistants, and 4 staff; and generated more than 8,000 student credit hours. We served more than 300 department majors and provided service to the core curriculum and other health programs on campus. D. Seabert Page | 3 Managed budget, course scheduling, faculty merit reviews, reappointments, and tenure and promotion applications Hired high quality tenure-track and full-time contract faculty members who enhance diversity and help improve program quality following the retirement of one-third of senior faculty members Enhanced academic advising resources and services for departmental majors to improve retention and graduation rates Smoothly transitioned the Physiology program, faculty members, graduate assistants, budget, and resources to the Biology Department in preparation for the move to the new College of Health Negotiated a full-time online contract position funded by Distance Education resulting in the hiring one of the University’s first remote engaged full-time contract faculty members Facilitated two half-day curriculum revision retreats with health science faculty leading to a major program curriculum revision Transitioned our online offerings from per-head pay to a load-based structure within one semester Increased enrollment in online courses offerings by 150% within two years and improved course quality and rigor through alignment with Quality Matters standards and peer review Supported the preparation of the Health Science accreditation report and site visit resulting in additional five year approval Facilitated department strategic planning efforts to re-establish department priorities and align with the University strategic plan Implemented an inter-departmental new faculty mentoring program Initiated department-wide professional development focused on increasing student engagement and academic rigor Established relationships and communication with the department external advisory committee, alumni, and friends of the department resulting in increased donations Co-chair, College of Health Implementation Task Force (appointed), Ball State University, 2014-2016 Helped established processes for instituting a new college Co-facilitated communication to the campus community (Board of Trustees, President, President’s Cabinet, and Faculty) regarding task force recommendations Chair, Governance Document Development Committee Long-range Academic Planning Steering Committee (appointed), Ball State University, 2013-2014 Chair, Health Subcommittee (Provost led initiative to conduct long range curricular planning for the institution.
