Greater Anglia continues transformation of the railway with £1 million for station upgrades October 8, 2019 Rail station car parks and platforms across East Anglia have been upgraded. Greater Anglia has invested over £1 million this year in keeping station car parks, approach roads, pedestrian crossings, bus lanes and platform surfaces in good condition. The work – at 53 stations – has included filling potholes, levelling surfaces, relaying tarmac, re-lining and marking car parks, refurbishing platforms and platform edging stones, putting up fences and erecting anti- vandal measures. The additional investment comes as the train operator continues its transformation of the railway in East Anglia, which will see £60 million spent on stations during the course of its franchise and £1.4 billion spent on introducing a brand new fleet of trains across the network. Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, Simone Bailey, commented: “Revenue from our car parks goes back into improving and upgrading our station infrastructure, car parks and facilities to ensure that our customers have a safe and pleasant experience when travelling with us.” These works are the latest in a series of car parking improvements as the train operator continues its transformation of the railway in East Anglia, which will see £60 million spent on stations during the course of its franchise and £1.4 billion spent on introducing a brand-new fleet of trains across the network. Recent work has seen Shenfield station car park significantly extended and extensions progressing at Manningtree and Bury St Edmunds. Automatic Number Plate Recognition and easier ways to pay have been introduced at 20 stations, and improvements to surfaces, lighting and CCTV at station car parks across the network. Stations to have benefited this year include Althorne, Audley End, Battlesbridge, Billericay, Bishops Stortford, Braintree, Brandon, Brundall, Burnham on Crouch, Cambridge, Cambridge North, Cantley, Chappel and Wakes Colne, Cheshunt, Colchester, Colchester Town, Derby Road, Diss, Dovercourt, Dullingham, Frinton, Great Chesterford, Haddiscoe, Harwich International, Harlow Mill, Harlow Town, Hockley, Ipswich, Kelvedon, Kennet, Lowestoft, Manea, March, North Fambridge, Norwich, Oulton Broad North, Prittlewell, Rayleigh, Rochford, Salhouse, Shenfield, South Woodham Ferrers, Spooner Row, St Margarets, Sudbury, Thorpe Le Soken, Thurston, Waltham Cross, Weeley, Whittlesford Parkway, Wickham Market, Witham and Worstead..
