RENO, Vols: 12 Workcamp: age:18+ W: The volunteers will be working in two different camping areas, Sierla camping in Nummi-Pusula and Kattilaniemi camping. The work mainly consist of restoring the public buildings (mainly painting), cleaning up in the surrounding areas (beach, forest, yard) and some overall maintenance work. The camp host is the youth department of city of Espoo and there will also be some local young people joining the camp. A: In Sierla the volunteers will sleep in the main building (an old, former school) which have two bigger (15 person) and a couple of smaller (6 person) rooms with bunk beds. There is also a kitchen and a dining room. There are no showers but instead there is a sauna, basins and the lake. Outdoor toilet. In Kattilaniemi the volunteers will sleep in tents. L: Sierla camp center is a former school, an old wooden building located by a lake called Pitkajarvi, surrounded by fields and forests, in the municipality of Nummi- Pusula. There is a farm close to but the other neighbours are mainly summer inhabitants. Nearest small towns are Karkkila, Lohja and Salo (~30km) and the closest bigger city is Espoo (~60km). http://www.nummi-pusula. fi/matkailu_enkku3.pdf Kattilaniemi camp center is located by the Kattilajarvi lake in Nuuksio National Park in Espoo. The Park itself forms the westernmost part of the so-called Nuuksio lake highlands, the largest and most important unbroken wilderness area in Uusimaa in terms of its natural value. It covers an area of 37 square kilometres. Kattilajarvi camp center is a great place for tent camping. http://www.visitespoo.fi/visitors_guide/enjoy/nuuksio_national_park Nearest city center is Espoon keskus (~15km). http://www.espoo.fi/en-US T: Sierla approx. 75 km to Helsinki, 60 km to Espoo. Kattilaniemi is located in Espoo approx. 15 km to city center and 35 km to Helsinki Nearest airport is Helsinki-Vantaa from where you can take the bus to Espoo. A chartered bus will take the volunteers from Espoo railway station to the site, Sierlan leirikeskus/ Sierla camp center. ENVI/RENO vols 5 Workcamp: age:18+ W: The camp is organized by the Keep Lapland Tidy Association in cooperation with Metsahallitus Natural Heritage Services. The work consists of repairing and taking care of outdoor and hiking areas in Inari. The work varies from tidying campfire sites, marking hiking routes and repairing lean-to shelters, constructing reindeer gates etc. Evenings are free and on one day we make a trip to Inari village, Sami museum and centre as well as a cruise on Lake Inari to Ukonkivi, an ancient Sami site. It is also possible to participate to Inari Week program at own expense (www.inariviikot.fi/en/). Keep Lapland Tidy is an environmental organization established in 1987. Its purpose is to help preserve the clean and enjoyable environment in Lapland, Finland and to increase environmental awareness by educating, developing waste management and organizing projects and volunteer work and camps. A: The accommodation will be organized in tents at a campfire site with lean-to shelters, a dry toilet and camp kitchen. Volunteers may bring own tents, if possible. The organizer offers one bigger tent and a sauna tent. It might also be possible to have a sauna 1-2 times nearby. The organizer will provide and prepare meals (breakfast, dinner and evening snack). Lunch will be packed to go to the work place by the volunteers. Special diets and allergies will be taken into account if possible, we need to be informed of these in advance. NOTICE: The camp is held in wilderness conditions, which means limited electricity and several kilometers to closest stores etc. L: Inari is a small village in Finnish Lapland, but Finland’s largest municipality. The closest bigger town is Ivalo. Closest railway station and airport are in Rovaniemi, where from there are daily connections by bus to Inari. RENO vols: 5age: 18+ Workcamp: W: In the village of Niva the local host is the village association. The work consists of landscaping, public building renovation such as the old grill the villagers use commonly and other outhouses and helping to organize local events such as two children¿s day camps. Volunteers must prepare for working outdoors in different weather conditions. The volunteers will be working together with seven local volunteers with the aim of sharing and learning from eachothers cultural background and knowhow. The volunteers will have the chance to learn about local cultural heritage and traditions in Northen Karelia region. A: The accommodation is arranged in a Hunters Hut and in tents by the river bank of Pyhaselka river where it is possible to go swimming. Volunteers must bring their own sleeping bags. Cooking facilities and sauna is available for the volunteers. Cooking will happen in instructed ways by the volunteers themselves. L: Niva is a small village with about 300 year around inhabitants. It is located 30km from a bigger town called Joensuu and it belongs to North Karelia region in eastern Finland. T: Joensuu Airport and railway station. CULT/RENO Vols: 10 Workcamp: AGE: 18+ W: This camp is co-organized by the local 4H club of Alajarvi and EU funded youth project called ‘The World in villages’ that aim to bring interculturality closer to the people in their local community. Work in this area will consist of helping in renovation of the culturally important public buildings such as the youth association building designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto as he lived his childhood in Alajarvi. The volunteers will also have the change to plan and perform theatre plays for the elderly locals and children by visiting them in rest homes and schools/daycare centers with local volunteers. Volunteers with creative talents and passion for performance arts are warmly welcome. For free time there are plenty of possibilities to play sports, i.e. baseball, cricket, football. A: Depending of the size of the volunteer group shared accommodation in a club house or host families. The host will provide ingredients and the volunteers will cook for themselves. L: Alajarvi is a small town between Seinajoki and Vaasa in Southern Ostrobothnia. T: Nearest train station is in Seinajoki (75km). Alajarvi has its own bus station.
