The Orange and Brown return 11 student-athletes from last year’s squad, and will welcome nine freshmen into the fold. After an 0-6 MAC finish during the 2011 season led by a young core of gymnasts, head coach Kerrie Turner has completely changed the outlook of the program. BGSU gymnastics has improved its conference record across each of the past three seasons, leading up to a 4-2 mark last year. And with this season’s roster being as talented as any in school history, the 2015 Falcons are determined to reach their goals of winning a MAC title and qualifying as a team to the NCAA regional championships. Coach Turner sat down with BGSUFalcons.com to preview the upcoming season. The full interview can be found below. The program earned its best finish at the MAC Championships in 22 years last season. How special was that achievement, and how can you carry that momentum into this year? “It was huge for us. Going into that meet knowing the amount of pressure that’s there and the fact that we built momentum throughout the season. All eyes were on us and a few other teams to be in that top group – sometimes that’s even more difficult. We really tried to keep the level of excitement and the positivity going around the team throughout that whole day, and then we finished third. Of course we wanted first place, but third was such an accomplishment from past years. And we have a lot of returners back, and they experienced the pride that went along with achieving what we did. They made an impression on the other teams and the officials, and that’s really going to help us coming into this year. People are expecting us to be pushing for that top spot.” Can you touch on some of the goals that your team has for the upcoming season? “We are really focused on setting our goals throughout every intrasquad in the fall. We set number goals in terms of the scores that we want to be reaching at the given time. So that by the time that the actual season is starting, we should be well above where we were last year. And so far we have been able to hit those works, which is really exciting. But really, we want to finish the year with a great record and we want to get that MAC win in the regular season, so that we can walk into the MAC Championships as the highlight of the meet and come out with the win. After being third, you really have no place to go but up. The goal is to get to that top spot. And then again, the other big goal is to get to the postseason as a team. That is really an important thing
