PHYLLIS W. ANDERSON, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, THE SUZUKI STRINGS OF AUGUSTA returned to the podium in 2007 when the Augusta Chorale invited her to be its artistic (SSA) SENIOR ENSEMBLE director. Since then, the Chorale has performed Handel's Messiah and Vivaldi's Gloria accompanied by the Suzuki Strings of Augusta Senior Ensemble, and has featured Mrs. Lois Akins, Founder and Director local singers including Mr. Isaac Holmes, Mr. Timothy Boyd, and Ms. Laquita Mitchell. The Chorale performs at the Georgia War Veterans Home, Laney Museum, The Suzuki Strings of Augusta (SSA) consists of about 200 public schools, Augusta Arts Festival and Paine College. string students and six teachers; they are well known in the Augusta area for their many fine concerts for more than 30 Presently Dr. Anderson is music specialist at Baker Place Elementary in years. They have performed at churches, weddings, and other Columbia County. Prior to teaching elementary music, Dr. Anderson was a tenured venues literally all over East Central Georgia and the Associate Professor of Music and Choir Director at Paine College for 13 years. Under Midlands of South Carolina including Augusta Mall, CSRA her direction, Paine's Choir was known for fine choral music around Augusta and Civic Clubs, and the Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival. Georgia. She was elected Teacher of the Year at Paine College and Euchee Creek Suzuki Strings has performed with the Augusta Children's Elementary. Dr. Anderson earned her Bachelor's degree at Norfolk State University; Chorale, the Columbia County Civic Orchestra, the Augusta Master's degree at Ohio State University; and her Doctor of Music Arts degree at the Community Band, and at Disney World. University of Georgia. Recently, Dr. Anderson joined the music staff at Good Hope Baptist Church. She is married to Walter W. Anderson, native of Steubenville, Ohio; The “Senior Ensemble,” the advanced group from the SSA, has performed with the Augusta Symphony, the Harry Jacobs their son Joseph is a student at Augusta State University. Chamber Society; and has performed in Florida and Kentucky. Several SSA students have won the Augusta Symphony Concerto Competition and continue to represent the CSRA at All-State Orchestras in both Georgia and South Carolina. Tonight's performance of Franz Schubert's Mass in G marked the fifth time that the Senior Ensemble has appeared in concert with the Augusta Chorale. Together the Chorale and the Senior Ensemble have successfully produced George Frederic Handel's Messiah and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria. Honoring Miss Angela Arrington The Senior Ensemble of the Suzuki Strings of Augusta The Augusta Chorale salutes Miss Angela Arrington, our long-time and Mrs. Lois Akins, Founder & Director dedicated accompanist. She joined the Augusta Chorale in the early 1980s and has been a faithful accompanist for about 30 years. Miss Arrington is a native Augustan who had an early interest in music and was able to play various tunes she heard at age two. She could play Assisting Teachers with both hands by the age of five. Ms. Arrington recognized her Mrs. Lois Akins; Mrs. Kim Chavous; Mrs. Joanne Stanford; extraordinary talent and took advantage of these musical attributes. Mrs. Rochelle Garman; Mr. Barry Garman Ms. Arrington studied piano at Turner/Baldwin School of Music so that she could nurture her God-given talent. Later, she was introduced to the Students Connors who taught her private piano lessons. She is a graduate of Glenn Hills High School. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Stanton Bemis Ryo Kamitani Mathematics and Computer Science with a minor in music from Mary Claire Birdsong Reese King Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. While in college, Ms. Katherine Birdsong Anthony McCullough Arrington sang in two choirs and accompanied various groups, Ella Brucker WilliamMerritt organizations, and college functions. Nicholas Brucker Miriam Minor Caroline Cain Sarah Nichols She has participated in many programs which include recording artists Delany Crews Mikayla Nodorft Dottie Peoples, Jessye Norman, Michael Young, and James Bignon. David Diaz Aden Plumlee She is a member of Ebenezer Second-Day Adventist Church where she Mills Dorn Kitty Shepherd accompanies the choirs of the church as pianist and organist.
