East White Oak Bible Church 2020 Missions Conference November 1 - 15 Welcome

East White oak bible church 2020 missions conference November 1 - 15 Welcome Welcome to Bold & Unhindered - a very different missions conference! We live in strange, uncertain and unprecedented times. Feeling Bold? Unhindered? Uncertainty and chaos can wear on you. Yet our theme - Bold & Unhindered - from the end of Acts is about Advancing the Gospel! Boldly and without hindrance he (Paul) preached the Kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 28:31 I like this note in the NET Bible: “Despite all the attempts to stop it, the message continues to go forth.” Notice the parallels between 2020 and Paul’s life at the end of the book of Acts. After three missionary journeys, Paul is on house arrest for preaching the gospel. Yet even on lockdown, Paul kept a warm and open home, welcoming all who would visit - including soldiers assigned to guard him. Imprisonment did not prevent him from speaking about the Kingdom of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul was confined, but God’s word was not. To exercise caution in the midst of COVID, the format of this year’s conference will be different in some ways. Many conference activities will be virtual giving us opportunities to hear from missionaries who cannot travel to be with us physically. You can attend most events from your home and in person. Check out our conference webpage or My Oak Central for all the details. Pastor Scott recently noted that COVID19 has shifted for the world from a “crisis” to a “chronic” situation. In the midst of this pandemic, many normal distractions and idols have been stripped away. Many are struggling, hurting, and fearful in our neighborhoods and around the world. May we who belong to Christ reach out with the love, joy and hope of the gospel to a scared, hopeless and hurting world. The Scripture gives us so many things we can know for certain. Here are just a few. · We know God loves us so much He sent His Son. John 3:16 · We know everything works for good according to God’s purpose. Romans 8:28 · We know our old self was crucified with Christ so we are no longer a slave to sin. Romans 6:6 · We know we were crucified with Christ and we no longer live but Christ lives through us. Galatians 2:20 · We know we can rejoice in suffering for suffering produces endurance and perseverance. Romans 5:3 · We know we are not justified by works but grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Galatians 2:16 Ephesians 2:8-9 · We know we have been ransomed by the precious blood of Christ. 1 Peter 1:18-19 · We know our labor is not in vain if we remain steadfast in Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:58 · We know God’s strength will sustain us. Isaiah 40:31 · We know we can always have hope because God has always been faithful. Hebrews 10:23 You may want to compile your own list. God has given us unshakable truth, so we can anchor to these truths during these uncertain times. As you take time to consider what God is doing in the world, our prayer is that you will also look at your own life and consider the question, how can you be a Bold & Unhindered witness for Christ? In these tumultuous times, folks are looking for hope and answers to hard questions. We know the One who is truth and life and provides the only real and lasting hope. Our desire is for every follower of Jesus - every man, woman, and child - to live on mission for Christ. God calls us to obedience and trust and He uses us as beacons of light in a dark, hopeless world. Our prayer is that God would speak to us individually and corporately as we seek to be Bold & Unhindered witnesses for the gospel. Enjoy the Conference! Scott Horrell DALLAS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY Dr. Horrell has been a missionary and theologian in various world cultures in addition to evangelism and church-planting. He especially loves to orient students to a global understanding of Christian faith and the implications of the triune God for all of life. After 18 years teaching and church-planting in Brazil, Scott teaches both theology and world missions at Dallas Seminary and is adjunct professor at SETECA (Guatemala), JETS (Amman, Jordan), and CDL (Maputo, Mozambique). He is also working on a Master’s of Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary. Jake has traveled to the Philippines three times and Burkina Faso once to share the gospel with those who have never heard it. He is currently exploring a path toward missions to Muslim people. As Paul says, “it has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ is not known” (Rom. 15: 20). He hopes to share this vision with other believers so that we might lay down our lives for others to experience eternal life in Christ. Rodney H.
