
M/Y MALAHNE – CREW PROFILES CAPTAIN – Arthur Cowan Arthur grew up in Vancouver, Canada and learnt to sail from an early age. Having completed all his schooling he then joined the Royal Navy and navigated frigates, as a Lieutenant, until 1993. In the summer of 1994 he began his yachting career on a 30metre yacht as Deckhand, working on various yachts in different positions, ultimately gaining his Masters ticket in early 1999. Since then he has commanded yachts from 35-80metres in varying parts of the world. He has recently learnt to ride horses, revels in doing his own mechanical repairs of an aging Land Rover and enjoys occasional DIY. Other languages: Conversational French and Spanish CHIEF OFFICER – Nic Edmonds Nic was born in Aberdare, Wales but at an early age his family relocated to New Zealand (Aotearoa). His childhood was spent camping, fishing, sailing and diving on various cost lines throughout NZ. Nic knew from an early age he was destined for a life at sea. At the age of 17, Nic landed his first job as a deckhand on a 25m charter yacht. He has spent the past 8 years gathering experience on various yachts cruising as far north as Norway to as far south as New Zealand. Nic holds a Chief Officer <3000gt ticket and is now working towards his Master <3000gt. When Nic is not working, you will find him on a sunny beach with his friends and family. ENGINEER – Mark Bartlett Mark originally hails from Yorkshire but was educated in Scotland graduating from the University of Aberdeen with a LLB (hons) in 1994. With a wish for a little adventure Mark started sailing with the Ocean Youth Club and raced out of Edinburgh before unexpectedly running his own boat in Texas. Since then he has worked through the ranks learning his trade on a variety of large sailing and motor yachts across the world. Latterly he has been involved in the builds of several large motor yachts in northern Europe including Lurssen, Feadship and Icon Yachts. Joining Malahne during its build makes this his second time at Pendennis. In his spare time Mark enjoys furniture making and the great outdoors. His passion for food came around the tender age of nine-teen when he was a kitchen porter in a local café. Quickly inspired by the quality and taste of fresh produce he moved down to The Goring Hotel in Belgravia, London, to further his skills. From there Adam left England and went to work for Scott Dunn, in their high-end Ski Chalet in the Alps, during the winter and villas in Mallorca during the summer. Also completing multiple summers on large estates in St Tropez, Adam now feels that working on board yachts is the best way to forward his career. CHIEF STEWARDESS – Annabelle Huvelin Annabelle was born in Nantes, France. She spent her childhood by the Sea and has found in yachting a perfect field to combine the Ocean, her passion for travel, and her hospitality skills. She also likes to work with children, spending one year in the United States as an Au Pair taking care of 4 children. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and is always happy to share her travelling experiences with people. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, running and reading. She is in the process of learning to Kite surf. She enjoys challenges and takes pride in providing excellent service, devoted to making your stay onboard an exclusive and unforgettable one. Other languages: French SECOND STEWARDESS – Agnese Bolsevica Agnese was born in a small town in Latvia called Sigulda, a town known for forestry and outdoor activities. She left Latvia at 20 and worked in an establishment which helped teenagers and adults who were facing social and professional issues. She soon moved on to pursue a career in the hotel industry at the 5 star ‘Claridges’ in London, where she stayed for 4 years in the VIP service team. She was lured into the yachting industry in 2011 and has had various roles within the interior department, as well as experience on deck. Agnese loves to travel and to savour those moments with her DSLR camera. When Agnese is not working, you will find her trekking through foreign countries exploring the road less travelled. Other languages: Latvian, and basic Russian THIRD STEWARDESS – Natasha Davies Natasha, the London Welsh, joined the yachting industry after studying a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, in Bournemouth. She has a great sense of adventure, which has led her into the yachting world. In her spare time she enjoys painting murals, singing solo, skiing, music events and exploring the great outdoors. With several years of hospitality service, Natasha will greet you with a welcoming smile. E&C Crew Profile Document 27/03/15 Page 2 of 3 BOSUN – Jordi Wilkes Jordi grew up on the coastal peninsula of Cornwall in the United Kingdom. It was the lifestyle Cornwall offered which fuelled his passion for outdoor life and water sports. After many years dinghy sailing as a child and finishing education, Jordi took his sailing skills onto large classic sailing yachts working on many, including the prestigious J class yachts, participating in regattas in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Jordi has decided to continue his career onto classic motor yachts and has been studying for his Officer of the Watch ticket. He is also a qualified snowboard instructor and has spent seasons teaching in New Zealand and Canada. Jordi is positive, friendly and always happy to help out. DECK/ENGINEER – Ben Hobbs Ben Hobbs, brought up around the River Hamble, near Southampton, where the Hobbs family shared a passion for boating. My father was particularly keen on both fishing and sailing and inspired us to enjoy these waterborne. The family have some good history within classic yachts with my great grandfather working and sailing onboard the J-Class, Shamrock, in the Americas Cup. Additionally, my Great-uncle Ed was Head Steward onboard Malahne, for Sam Spiegel. With this background in classic yachts and growing up going afloat, both my brother and I took on apprenticeships to become shipwrights, at Southampton Yacht Services. We worked on some of the most prestigious classic boats in the world. I am now looking forward to being involved with and being a part of the Malahne crew, with a view to becoming a yacht engineer. DECKHAND – Jaime Guerreiro Jaime was born in Portugal and learnt to sail from an early age in the waters of the Algarve. He started his sailing career in 2001 on small optimist dinghies, progressing and racing in national and international events. At the age of 14 he then moved onto laser dinghies, doing various yacht races, and skippering match races. Throughout his childhood he knew that he wanted a career at sea, so he decided to undergo yacht master training in the UK, to gain the necessary qualifications to join the Industry as a Deckhand.
