CAAFA SHN Community Training www.caafaaz.org Analyzing CRIMINAL MINDS From a Domestic Violence Perspective When: Wednesday, September 6th, 10:00-12:00 Where: Central Arizona College, Superstition Mountain Campus, Room F115 Subject: When crimes are committed, one is many times left wondering how someone can hurt someone else in such a way. It can be hard to comprehend especially when one sees the effects it has on the victim and others that are affected by the crime committed. The mind of an abuser in a Domestic Violence relationship can be very specific and telling. This workshop will focus on how the mind of such an abuser works and how important it is to understand it. Patterns are our friends in that they can help us to prepare to some degree. We will look at some of those patterns together and discuss their significance. Cost: FREE, BUT RSVP REQUIRED. Please RSVP to [email protected] Presenter: Melisa Mel BA Eng, MA SpEd/Ed, MA ESL, PhD ABD Psych www.fromvictimtosurvivor.vpweb.com Bio: Melisa Mel, also known as the “Cargo Pants Girl”, is the CEO, Founder, and President of her company “From Victim to Survivor, LLC”. She works extensively with First Responders, Perpetrators, and Victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes. Her preference is to be addressed simply as “Mel”. Mel taught English, Spanish and Severe Disabilities for 28 years. She then transitioned her focus to LGBT issues, policing issues, and first responder issues. She has published eight books and is currently working on her ninth. She holds a BA in English, an MA in English as a Second Language, an MA in Special Education/Education, and a PhD ABD in Psychology. Passion for assisting those without a voice pushes Mel forward on her many goals and projects. Over the years, Mel has been nominated for various national awards for her work with victims, her philanthropy, her teaching, and her writing. She was recently awarded the 2017 AZ Woman of the Year Beth McDonald Award and the Triumph Over Tragedy Award from Governor Doug Ducey. .
