Hernando County EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER Alert EVENT Severe Weather Potential EOC LEVEL OF ACTIVATION DATE 19 December 2018 1/ FULL TIME 3:00 PM 2/ PARTIAL REPORT # 2 X 3/ MONITORING SITUATION UPDATE – 3:00 PM • Damaging winds possible • Heavy rainfall totals of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts • Seas building to 16 feet • Breezy conditions over land with 15-25 mph and higher gusts possible, stronger along the coast • In addition to the earlier mentioned Areal Flood Watch, a Coastal Flood Watch has been issued from 7:00 pm Thursday through 1:00 pm Friday • Thursday night high tide – (4.0 ft AGL) - high water in the canals of Hernando Beach and Weeki Wachee Gardens, a few homes may have water in them • Afternoon high tides on Thursday and Friday – (2.5 ft AGL) - can expect to bring several inches of water on low lying coastal roads ORIGINAL REPORT – 10:00 AM Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region Wednesday night through Thursday ahead of a strong cold front. A few of these storms could be severe. Lingering showers, strong gusty winds and some minor coastal flooding will continue to be a concern on Friday. Hernando County is under an Areal Flood Watch from 1:00 am Thursday through 7:00 am Friday. A Gale Watch is in effect along the coast for Thursday night and Friday. The NWS Storm Prediction Center currently has most of Hernando County under a marginal risk of severe weather with an increased threat further east. There is still some uncertainty with the forecast. If better atmospheric instability develops, then some large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible. Turn around, don’t drown. Do not drive through flooded areas. • Residents are urged to actively monitor local news media or the National Weather Service at https://www.weather.gov/tbw/ • If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter in an interior, windowless room. • Mariners should heed small craft advisories. • Report damages promptly to the Emergency Operations Center at 352-754-4083. • Register for automated emergency weather alerts at: www.AlertHernando.org. • Always keep your disaster supply kit ready.
