Organisations involved are: Monmouthshire Adult Education Monmouthshire Youth Service Incredible Edibles Abergavenny We are developing two rooms within the Youth and Community Centre into a fitted community kitchen. Within this kitchen the food Co‐operative would run, as well as accredited catering courses for adults and young people. The kitchen will be developed into a community used and run resource providing education and the skills to produce healthy food on a budget. We would also look to support the Food Bank scheme. The participants for this project will be able to use the garden to grow their own vegetables they will have the opportunity to join other classes and obtain the knowledge of what to do with the produce. With our experienced tutor on hand they will be able to give advice and encourage new skills for life. They will also monitor their essential skills and encourage people to join other classes if necessary. This will increase their self‐esteem and give them the confidence to join other groups. They will have the option to grow and cook what they want or just come along and have a chat and a coffee with other people within the community. This project will give local residents the chance to grow, harvest and cook fruit and vegetables which will increase their health and wellbeing. We have Approx. 500 people through the door every week in term time so there is an excellent consumer base. We have acquired some basic kitchen fixtures and fittings from another Monmouthshire Building being Moth‐balled so we require the support to be able to start the work required for the conversion. The group of unemployed young people engaged on the Building Project at the Youth and Community Centre are providing the labour required to remove the current partitioning and open up the area. This is estimated to be 40hours of work with a team of 6 young people supported by staff members. We have been successful in receiving a £1000 grant from Monmouthshire Housing Association which is to be spent on the flooring for the Community Kitchen.
