Brent Jones, SF 49Ers Bio

Brent Jones, SF 49ers Bio Brent Jones was born February 12, 1963 in Santa Clara, California. He would later move to the Almaden Valley area and attend Leland High School where he excelled at both baseball and football. “The fact is” said Brent, “I never thought about becoming an NFL tight end. As a young person growing up in San Jose, I had aspirations of playing pro baseball. In high school, I made first‐team all‐league on the diamond and was a second string football player.” After graduating Leland, Brent went to Santa Clara University on a baseball/football scholarship, and it was there that his football skills blossomed. He was first‐team all‐ conference for three years, earned conference Player of the Year honors as a senior and also became an AP, Football News and Kodak All‐American. In 1986 Brent was drafted in the fifth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After his first season which included a car accident and neck injury, he wound up back near his hometown playing for the San Francisco 49ers. And as the old saying goes, "The rest is history." He would retire as a four time pro‐bowler with three Super Bowl Rings at the end of the 1997 season. He would record 417 receptions for 5,195 yards and 33 touchdowns. In 1998, Brent Jones was named “Good Samaritan” of the Year by the NFL. Jones was inducted into the Division II Football Hall of Fame in 2001 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Shortly after his playing career ended, Brent became an analyst for The NFL Today. He worked for The NFL on CBS from 1998‐2004 and decided to leave CBS Sports prior to the 2005 season in order to focus on his business in California, Northgate Capital, which he founded with former teammates Mark Harris and Tommy Vardell. .
