Policy Development Group – Transportation Priorities Category A: Public Transport (Bus, Train, Ferry, Air) – Examples of Suitable Projects with indicative costs Services Bus Services • Demand Responsive Services, such as ‘Dial a Bus’. ( £25,000) • Campbeltown Ring and Ride (Demand Responsive) “ • Oban/Rothesay/Dunoon Dial a Bus extension/ introduction “ • Helensburgh – Demand Responsive – Luss/Arrochar “ • Strengthening existing servcies – particularly in evenings (£25k – £50k) • Main towns and Islay – improve frequencies “ Train Services • Dalmally/Garelochhead commuter (up to £150,000) • Strengthen West Highland Line services “ Ferry Services • CalMac Route Development, eg Coll/Tiree/Colonsay and local ferries- (wide range) Air Services • HITRANS Strategy proposals (up to £1m) Capital Vehicles • Buses - Tiree, Dunoon, Campbeltown, Rothesay – could be accessible/low floor (£80,000) • Ferries – issues being researched under separate funding package Infrastructure • Bus Bays as in present HITRANS Phase I (£25,000) • Raised Kerbs – on strategic routes, (£30,000 per route) eg Campbeltown/Glasgow, Oban/Glasgow, Dunoon/Inveraray, Oban/Ardrishaig, Oban/Fort William Oban/Perth • Waiting Facilities – piers, harbours eg, Tayinloan, Gigha, (£6k - £60k) Portavadie, Helensburgh, Claonaig, Iona • continue shelter programme for strategic bus network (£6k each) • Turning Circle, eg Ardfern, Bute, Ardentinny, Toward? (£30,000) • CCTV – Dunoon Pier, Oban Station/Bus Terminal, Campbeltown Bus Interchange (£35k per location) Projects Information Provision • Real time information – Glasgow-Campbeltown and (£100k plus) other routes from Oban and Dunoon. • Mobile Phone – information access on all strategic routes (£10,000) • Travel Centre – eg Helensburgh/Oban – Journey-Planning hardware (Transport Direct) in TIC’s. (£15k per location) • Park & Ride – all main centres, Dunoon, Rothesay, Campbeltown, Lochgilphead, Oban, Craignure, Helensburgh (wide variation) • Through ticketing – eg CalMac, SPT, Mount Stuart (Rothesay) “ • Electronic Ticketing for smaller operators “ • Route strategies – all modes (staff costs only) Category B: Walking and Cycling Capital • Cycling – main routes, eg, Oban-Ballachulish, (wide range) West Argyll Cycle Route, Links to National Park, signing/route construction/links to core path strategies • Construction/improvement of local preferred routes, “ eg to Kilmory, Lochgilphead Hospital, Oban High School and Hospital • Cycling Furniture – eg racks on buses linked to strategic routes, (£250 - £5,000) eg West Argyll (Tarbert, Ardrishaig), cycle lane, eg Helensburgh and other cycle furniture, stands/shelters etc. • Footway links to centres or from communities to ((£50k typically) bus routes (Blairmore/Kilmun, for example), safe routes to school – NPDO issues. Projects • Bike lockers at stations/bus termini/ferry terminals (£250 each) • Cycle trailers on tourist type routes (£15,000 each) Category C: Traffic Management To be developed in conjunction with local plan. .
