We also have useful seminars on learning skills, time management, career development, and taking the stress out of the transition to College, both for recent high school grads and for adults returning to school. ACT! Academic Centre for Testing If you’re unable to write a test or exam during regular class time, or you need special accommodation, don’t worry – ACT has got you covered. With a faculty referral, we will schedule an alternate test provision to meet your needs. Counselling Services Counselling services are available to help students deal with personal issues such as anxiety, depression, overwhelming stress, substance use or addiction, sexual or other assault, abuse, and mental or emotional health concerns. We can also assist with referrals to external and specialized community agencies. Sessions are absolutely confidential, free, and focused on finding your strengths and solutions to your challenges. Aboriginal Resource Centre Native students at Loyalist are supported in realizing their full academic and personal potential, and encouraged to express and develop their Native identity through cultural activities in a friendly environment. Students with Disabilities Supports and accommodations are available for students with disabilities such as learning, hearing, vision and mobility, as well as ASD/Aspergers, ADD/ADHD, mental health, medical and brain injury. The AccessAbility Centre is here to help. We evaluate each case individually to develop an individualized education plan. Early identification is essential. We will need documentation verified by a health care professional identifying the nature of the disability and the recommended support services. International Centre International students and students who are new to Canada help create a more vibrant cultural experience for the entire Loyalist community. We understand that starting College can be a big adjustment; starting in a new country is an even bigger one! The International Centre is here to help you adapt to College life – socially, academically and culturally – with welcome programs, immigration and tax advice, and assistance with housing and health insurance. We also have drop-in English classes, and terrific group outings and celebrations throughout the school year. Peer tutoring at Café Sans Souci in downtown Belleville 6 7 LEARNING CENTRES People and places are the forces that shape our lives. The greatest impact on your educational experience will be made by the people you learn with and the classrooms, labs and workshops where you study. The leading-edge facilities at Loyalist will give you access to the latest tools and technologies, learning resources, and realistic practice environments that prepare you to be confident and effective in the workplace. Student Access Lab SAL is a state-of-the-art facility available to all full-time students. We’ve got over 120 computers (PCs and Macs) here for you, with colour printing, two scanners and up-to-date software including graphic design programs and AutoCAD. Come by as often as you like to finish and print your assignments, do some research, or keep in touch with friends and family. We’ll also provide you with a College email address for the duration of your program, to help you connect with your teachers and fellow students about course work, study groups and opportunities on campus. Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre Rapidly evolving technologies are changing the way we do business, and the demand for skilled trades workers is growing – quickly. Loyalist is preparing graduates to meet that challenge with cutting-edge facilities and hands-on training using the latest technology. You’ll love learning in the state-of-the-art Biosciences Labs and Skilled Trades workshops in our new 121,800 square-foot LEED® Silver certified facility. The $16.6 million construction project was made possible through funding from the federal Knowledge Infrastructure Program and matching funds from the provincial government, with additional funding by our Student Government, municipalities and partners in the business community. The Parrott Centre – Library Services Our extensive library collection gives you unlimited access to a wealth of information – everything from traditional print and video resources to online encyclopedias, academic journals and over 28,000 e-books. Our friendly staff can help you with your search. We can set you up with a personal RefWorks account to help organize your research, format citations and prepare bibliographies. You can even access the library catalogue and electronic resources from home, or around the world. The library is a quiet and welcoming place to study, but it’s not all work, work, work. We’ve also got films on demand – over 8,000 titles to choose from – and a free wireless hotspot. 8 9 Make the most of your College experience.
