Netflix Introduces Princess Diana to 'The Crown'

Netflix Introduces Princess Diana to 'The Crown' 10.13.2020 Part of the fun of Netflix's extravagant period drama, The Crown, is seeing who will play what famous figure. Last season, it was Oscar-winner Olivia Colman and Oscar-nominee Helena Bonham Carter taking on the iconic roles of Queen Elizabeth and her impetuous sister, Princess Margaret. This season, it's the much less well known Emma Corrin taking on the role of the the now globally revered Lady Diana Spencer, who will become Princess Diana by the end of the season, and Gillian Anderson as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, also known as the "Iron Lady." Netflix itself has had fun teasing the season, and the streaming service is clearly aware of the cultural touchstones it is heading for-in particular, Diana's famous wedding dress, which is where this 1:32 teaser ends. The spot is narrated by the famous-and unwittingly prescient-words of the bishop who officiated the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, who says: "Here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made. A prince and princess on their wedding day. But fairytales usually end at this point with the simple phrase, 'They lived happily ever after. As husband and wife live out their vows, loving and cherishing one another, sharing life's splendors and miseries, achievements and setbacks, they will be transformed in the process. Our faith sees the wedding day not as the place of arrival, but the place where the adventure really begins." As everyone now knows, the story of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was anything but a fairy tale. Season four of The Crown premieres Friday, Nov. 15 on Netflix. [Images courtesy of Netflix].
