Throughout the Australian Colonies are some very useful SPECIMEN and cancelled-to-order stamps, including 1901 Federal Presentation sets with the accompanying presentation letters. We are pleased to offer a furher important seelction of Tasmania, with a ranging through all the stamp issues, suitably lotted. However stregnth is in the postal history, with material ranging from pre-stamps to the Pictorials, and a wide range of cancellation and postmarks studies, including an extensive group of instructional and informative markings. Australian Commonwealth begins with 130 lots of Kangaroos. The stregtnh is in what must be the largest group of cancelled-to-order stamps offered at auction. Thse include all the various dates used for presentation and collectors’ sets, offered both as individual values and also in full sets. The highlight must be the AP 15 13 complete set from ½d to £2. There are also accompaying SPECIMEN overprints on the high vlaues, including multiples of the First Watermark Type A handstamp. The King George V issues are similarly extensive and also include an excellent range of cancelled-to-order material, including two blocks of four of the 4½d Die II. There are some fine studies of the plate varieties on various values, and individual highlights are a block of 4 of the 5d Single Watermark in a very rare deep brown shade, and a 1½d Green with inverted watermark, a new discovery. there are also four lots of the rare display SPECIMEN handstamps. Australia is completed by some interesting postage dues, including covers, an extensive offering of postal stationery, with stregnth in envelopes and including some fine bulk lots, and a wide range of postal history, including aerophilately. From the Rest of the World there is a collection of Antigua suitably lotted, an accumulation of Canadian instructional markings, and a specialised collection of Cook Islands 1949-1967 issues including essays and proofs as well as extensive studies of the various issues. There are some interesting Gilbert & Ellice Islands covers, a range of German Colonies with Yacht high values in fine condition, and an accumulation of Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika with both stamps and postal history; the Tanzania booklets are modern rarities. Basset Hull $50 2 C Europe: Group of four fascinating inwards covers to Melbourne from the early 1920s, with 1922 (9 Sep) and 1923 (15 Jan) from Berlin franked with 3m Vermilion pair and 50m Slate-black strip of 3 respectively, and 1923 (22 Jun) from Riga, Latvia with 20s, all three showing in addition a large triple-oval cachet 'RUSSIAN FAMINE/I.F.T.U./RELIEF COMMISSION' in violet, also 1922 (29 Apr) cover from Moscow with 7500r on 250r and 22500r endorsed 'I.F.T.U.' at top left. The addressee, Miss E. Moore, was involved in the Peace Movement in WWI. Some small faults, but scarce inwards mail to Australia at this period and fascinating social history (4) $180 Australian Colonies 3 C 1910 (13 Oct) cover from Hobart to Mr (later Rev) Graebner at Unley (SA), franked with the ½d adhesives of New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria and 1d adhesives of Queensland and Western Australia, cancelled on the day on which all States' stamps became valid for postage throughout the Commonwealth.
