'DAP unity plan should be endorsed by delegates' Malaysiakini.com October 11, 2010 Perak DAP leaders must not take unilateral decisions on matters that affect the party but should refer them to delegates at the party state election on Nov 14 for endorsement, said former party veteran leader Lim Cho Hock in a media statement. Cho Hock was commenting on the unity proposal plan by party supremo Lim Kit Siang to patch up the current unrest in the party between party state chief Ngeh Koo Ham, his cousin, party state secretary Nga Kor Ming and party state deputy chief M Kulasegaran. "Any private deal or appointment by a few party leaders without a mandate from the members is not only against the party's constitution but will also result in the legitimacy of the leadership being challenged and causing severe unrest," warned Cho Hock. The cousins are heading the powerful party A team while Kulasegaran heads the weaker B team for the party state election. The 15 elected members will have a major say in the selection of candidates for the coming general election. Public outburst The state veteran leader wants all party delegates to speak out through the ballot box on Nov 14 at the state convention and settle the party's internal differences once and for all. He also took to task Kulasegaran for his public outburst on his political differences with Ngeh and Nga that might give ammunition to BN to attack DAP. He advised all party leaders to give priority to the party's image and welfare rather than succumb to personal interests. He expressed confidence that the 20,000 DAP members and more than 1,100 state party delegates will be the best judges to determine the leaders to guide the party into the next general election. Cho Hock was the first DAP state leader in 1966, was the Ipoh MP in 1974 and 1978 and Kepayang assemblyperson in 1982, and he is currently the party state supervisory committee chairperson.
