The UW System was created in October 1971, by a law placing all of the state’s public university campuses under a single Board of Regents. The UW System is composed of 13 universities, 13 two-year UW Colleges and UW-Extension which provides outreach services from offices in every county. Although only 39 years old, the UW System was one of the first statewide higher educational systems in the nation and has been a pioneer in developing coordinated and high quality programs and services on a statewide basis. System administrative offices are in Madison. Universities are located in Eau Claire, Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Kenosha (Parkside), Platteville, River Falls, Stevens Point, Menomonie (Stout), Superior and Whitewater. Colleges are at Baraboo, Fond du Lac, Janesville, Manitowoc, Marinette, Marshfield, Menasha, Rice Lake, Richland Center, Sheboygan, Waukesha, Wausau and West Bend.
