Liquid IT Petone vs Waterside Karori Central League 2020 | 3pm, Saturday July 11 | Memorial Park Powerex Petone vs Waterside Karori W-League 2020 | 1pm, Saturday July 18 | Memorial Park Proudly supporting Petone FC liquidit.nz Chairman’s Corner elcome Waterside Karori to Petone FC and welcome all of our loyal Wsupporters as well as opposition supporters. A quick recap of the last two weekends – our Liquid IT Men’s First Team had a loss and a draw and now sit mid-table, Reserves two good wins, Third Team two losses and Fourth Team two wins and sit nicely on top of the Wellington 3 table. Our Powerex Women’s First Team had two wins and sit near the top of the W-League, Reserves two losses and U18 Team a win and a loss, so this development team is going really well. Our closed-shop teams had a mix of results over the two weeks. But from the vibe in the clubrooms, they are all loving being out playing football again. With a full round of games for all of our teams except masters this week due to the school holidays, we have an exciting weekend ahead of us. The main game today is our Liquid IT Petone Men’s First Team against Waterside Karori – both teams needing points to rise up the league table. The curtain raiser is Petone Reserves versus Waterside Karori Third Team – so hopefully a lot of support for both teams here today. And continuing the theme, next weekend (July 18) our Powerex Women’s First Team also host Waterside Karori. The juniors will be back on the 18th due to the school holiday break this weekend – so if you want to see some football mayhem come down next Saturday before the Women’s kick-off and you will see our youth having fun out there. See if you can spot our next superstar! Please also support Henry in the kitchen, he has some nice food on offer from 2.30pm every Saturday. We are lucky to have him doing the catering for us – and please remember his Cookie’s Café in Regent Street, Petone. I am looking forward to seeing how this weekend unfolds for us – good luck to everybody – COYB. Our primary focus is to prepare an individual for life beyond youth football. We are achieving this through the creation of an enjoyable learning environment where players feel free to be creative and to make mistakes. Capital Football has created a new TDP league in which we proudly have three teams. This new platform provides an excellent means for our players to measure themselves against local and national talent. We are proud to offer this opportunity to our young players as they learn to measure success in and out of football. Our direct vertical integration pathway into our senior teams, who play top-tier football in both Central League and W-League, gives us a perspective on the current demands and requirements to play at these levels. This allows our players to set tangible targets within our Long Term Player Development Plan. Throughout the year we offer unique learning opportunities in the form of clinics and camps to keep our players engaged and challenged. If you are interested in our programme or have any questions do not hesitate to contact us. These much-appreciated financial supporters will also be named match-day sponsor for one game per year, in which their business and the players proudly wearing their shirts will be profiled in the following pages of this programme. Hospitality will be provided to the sponsor at that game and, additionally, framed pictures will feature in the club stairwell during the season. A few shirts are still available, so any businesses who may be interested – and any club members who have any potential contacts – please advise club chairman Matt Bliss <[email protected]>. This weekend we have two featured sponsors – Jason Brown Plumbing whose name appears on the shirts of James Nash and Haley Pllu, and The Mortgage and Insurance Shop whose name appears on the shirts of Hami Paranihi-Nuku and Olivia Gibbs. Do you have a lucky charm or ritual that you observe before playing? I always wear blue underpants. What do you do outside of football? I’m an apprentice builder, surf and play the odd game of indoor netball. What is the song you like to train to? If I Can’t by 50 Cent. Favourite takeaway? KFC. Who is your favourite team in any other league? Wellington Phoenix. What footballer do you most admire and why? Claude Makélélé. What did you learn from COVID? That family (and Bella) are the most important thing. What would be your ultimate achievement in your sport this year? Finally scoring a goal. What is the best thing about Petone Football Club? The mates I’ve grown up playing with. Olivia Gibbs Centre midfield Why have you chosen football over other codes? In Year 8, I had to decide whether I would continue playing netball for school or football for club and I chose football as it’s my favourite sport. I love the skill and technique involved within football and the rush you get when your team scores a goal or you beat a player and offload a nice through ball. It is honestly the best feeling! Do you have a lucky charm or ritual that you observe before playing? I wouldn’t say I have a lucky charm but after every FIFA 11 warmup, I always have to do front, back, then sideways leg swings against the fence which gets me in the zone. Specialising in Sign Manufacture and Installation www.signfoundry.co.nz 0508 FOUNDRY Wellington - Auckland - Christchurch What do you do outside of football? I play a bit of futsal, badminton and go to the gym outside of football. I am also a Year 13 student and the Head of Sport at my school (Sacred Heart College), so I always have some school work to do or some school sports events to help plan. What is the song you like to train to? I don’t really train to a song but two that hype me up before a game is Feelin’ Myself by will.i.am and Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners. Favourite takeaway? I would have to say Subway or KFC! Who is your favourite team in any other league? It would have to be Spurs in the Premier League as my dad has supported them from a young age, so we have to. What footballer do you most admire and why? Probably Luka Modric, as I grew up watching him play as centre midfield for Spurs and he was so good (and still is).
