As you read this report, I hope you will take pride in what our community is accomplishing as we collectively turn our values into action. There are thousands of vulnerable people who rely on the life-changing help Jewish Family Service provides. And there are thousands of supporters and partners who make it possible for JFS to give individuals and families the tools they need to measurably improve their lives. Every one of us plays a role in strengthening the community we call home. There is no one “face” of who JFS serves. Each individual has a story. And in recognizing that, our staff honors the dignity of every unique person who turns to us. There are, however, some commonalities in the challenges our clients confront. Housing and financial stability are key concerns for nearly everyone we serve — the working poor, domestic violence survivors, refugees, people with chronic mental illness and fixed-income seniors. When people are vulnerable, their physical and mental health is often compromised. And the issues our folks struggle with can leave them isolated and lacking the social connections that are integral to well-being. We have inherited a shared history and shared values. The tradition reminds us that we were once strangers, and so we continue to welcome the stranger. It reminds us that we have “I hope you will an obligation to our family, and so we continue to be the only take pride in what place that provides social services to meet the particular needs our community of Jewish individuals and families. Because we are JFS, we is accomplishing serve the Jewish community – and because we are Jewish, we serve the greater community. This “double portion” is our as we collectively blessing, our challenge, our privilege and our work. turn our values into action.” Rabbi Will Berkovitz 2015 REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY I 3 Annual Campaign Community of Caring Totals $3,868,299 Luncheon The work of JFS is made possible by the April 30, 2015 extraordinary commitment of our generous Co-Chairs: Barbara Sulman and Carin Jacobson community.
