Better tidy calves that fit the spec wanted and very well sold, several smaller types which would be a harder sell, a real trade for Native heifers which bucked the trend and found more purchasers. Continental x best blue bulls flew to £380 from Longmoor Farm Ltd, medium £230-£280, more plentiful smaller sorts £100-£170. Heifers continue to meet excellent demand plenty £180-£220 topping at £240 from Colin Trim. Native x mainly smaller bulls which found competition nearly all £100-£160, topping at £175 from Messrs Tuffin, heifers really well sold most £130-£170, only smaller sorts much the same price £60-£90, better end topped at £205 from Longmoor Farm Ltd. Farm assurance is getting more and more important, unless you’ve got the very best butcher’s quality or you leave enough time and scope for someone else to get them assured (90 days). Although you may not agree with the principle, or practice of it, there is no doubt it is essential to access the main markets for beef cattle and allow all to bid for your cattle. Sheep (518) Auctioneer Simon Whaley Trade: More sheep on offer today and of a lesser quality than last week with the overall average slipping by some 8p per kilo across the weight ranges. Please draw your lambs for finish and condition and not just by weight. Top price lightweights 194p per kilo form Dominic Jones of King Stag who also topped the standardweights at 188p per kilo, top price mediumweights 197p per kilo from Geoff Blackburn of Three Legged Cross and heavyweights to 188p per kilo from Catherine Kyte of Devizes. There were just over 200 cull ewes & rams on offer, the majority of which fell into the plain category bringing down the overall average by around £8 per head, top price ewes £94 per head form C D Green of Bucknowle, Wareham followed by £88.50 per head from Dave Thick of Bowerchalke, top price ram £85 per head from Messrs D Mann & Son also of Bowerchalke. Would vendors of hoggets please mark any sheep with broad teeth erupted as these have to be sold separately.
