See page 3 for more… Personal Note from the Editor: Yes, 100 is the limit. October 2018 is the 100th issue I have edited of the HRCC’s Historic Torque, having started in June 2010, and producing 12 issues annually; unfortunately I needed to combine the July and August editions this year due to the timing of the biggest ever Historic Queensland Race Meeting. So the November issue will be my last as Editor, marking eight and a half years of a significant investment of time, thought and effort. I have enjoyed the monthly challenge, and I hope you have enjoyed the result… I wish to thank those who have assisted along the way, by contributing notices, stories, photographs and encouragement, but most importantly, the professional photographers without whom this would be a difficult job and a poorer result. I would like to thank, especially, Ian Welsh (shiftingfocus.com.au) for his copious and prompt supply of excellent motorsport photographs, and his great work with our very modern website. Following in the footsteps of dedicated Members past, including Ken Nelson, Ross Phillips, John Carson, Pete Ziser, and Charles Mogg, Ian has volunteered to take over the role of Editor of Historic Torque, so it’s in good hands. The 21st Noosa Hillclimb (Summer) will be run over the weekend of 10-11 November. Both Noosa Hillclimbs (Summer and Winter) are promoted by a joint venture of the Noosa Beach Classic Car Club (NBCCC) and Historic Racing Car Club of Queensland (HRCC) and have steadily increased in popularity over the last 20 years. The course is claimed to be Australia’s Toughest Hillclimb, combining 14 challenging corners with a dramatic rise to the top of the range, all centred in the beautiful Tewantin National Park. Of course, Noosa/Tewantin provides plentiful accommodation and entertainment, so a longer stay is very popular. Billed as the Classic and Sports Car Challenge, the Summer Hillclimb is open to all types, but, with the glorious Noosa weather, is especially suited to Sportscars and open-wheel Racing Cars, whether road registered or not. For 2018, cars with Historic Logbook will be included in the appropriate age bracket unless sufficient entries are received to form an individual class. The three age brackets are: Historic (Pre-1980) Classic (1981-2000) Modern (post 2000) including Classes for Racing Cars, Sports Cars, Sports Sedans and Touring Cars, and a Regularity Hillclimb. Click here for Supp Regs and Entry…. https://www.hrcc.org.au/summer%20noosa.htm Or type in www.hrcc.org.au and select Events ENTRIES CLOSE WEDNESDAY 24TH OCTOBER. ENTER NOW! Haven’t run Noosa Hillclimb? Make 2018 your year! HRCC Members and friends are encouraged to participate in the Working Bee in the Pit Area on Saturday 27th October. Beginning at 9am, we’ll be trimming grass, picking-up sticks, and making the area tidy for the big weekend. A sausage sizzle and refreshments will be provided. Share the ride with a mate or three… Many hands make light work! HRCC Helping Those Who Help Us. As part of HRCC’s Historic Queensland Race Meeting, the Friday night Meet & Greet included a multi-draw raffle with all prizes thanks to generous Event Sponsors. In August the HRCC Treasurer John Tupicoff returned to Warwick, and presented the raffle proceeds, $1050, to the Glennie Heights Scout Group at their Den. Since 2015 the Glennie Heights Scout Group have been assisting the HRCC with the Entry ticket sales at both Historic Race Meetings in early May and July each year. Neil Meiklejohn (Emu) said the unexpected donation would go towards the renovation of the Scouts Den and thanked HRCC and its Members for the generous donation. 3 The Oily Rag If you have not been taking “the Oily Rag” you have been missing out!
