From here many volunteers are busy behind the scenes planning for 2016. Recently, Tia Winikerei and Hamish Barton visited representatives from the Northern Centre’s and discussed player development and youth leadership development. Tania Heap and Trina have also made contact, planning dates to deliver Netball New Zealand (NNZ) coaching courses and netball development days. We would like to say a huge thank you to our volunteers who took the time to meet with us. Kaipara Netball Centre held a Netball New Zealand Community Coach Award (CCA) weekend on September 26th & 27th. Six more coaches successfully completed their awards. It was a great weekend of learning new information and sharing experiences. We look forward to seeing these coaches put what they learnt into practice. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Pacific Cup Tournament. Players from our Zone gathered together at Auckland Netball Centre to compete against some of the most tenacious Pacific nations representatives we have on offer. There were six grades from U/11 to Seniors, as well as a Mixed grade. Tonga, Cook Islands, Samoa, Niue and Maori were represented. The Tournament provides opportunities for indigenous people to come together to acknowledge and celebrate their ancestral links and culture, as one. Well done to all who competed on the day it was a great atmosphere to be a part of. Tracey Spence—Southern Netball Development Officer Counties Maori U15A Counties Maori U15B Counties Maori U11/U13 October Newsletter 2015 Coach Development Advanced Student Coach Programme Congratulations to Netball North Harbour who have introduced an Advance Student Coach Programme. The criteria for students to be selected for this programme was to complete a NNZ Foundation Coaching Module, coach for a minimum of 2 years, a commitment to coach in 2016 and an interest and enthusiasm to further their coaching knowledge. The programme provides ongoing support by offering a mentor, an opportunity to work with senior coaches (apprentice coach scenario), ongoing coach education with NNZ Community Coach Award and other opportunities to support and help develop student coaches. The Zone is fully supportive of this wonderful programme and would encourage other centres to adopt a format that would support and develop their student coaches. If you are interested do not hesitate to contact me and we can discuss what a programme could look like for your student coaches. Yvonne’s first national tournaments were in 2001 when she was selected to officiate at the NZAG and NZSS Championships. From that point on, her career continued to escalate with selection to National Squads resulting in appointments to National Championships, Trans Tasman Secondary Schools Champs , National Bank Cup, Pacific Cup Series, First World University Games, South African versus Northern Ireland test series, Australia versus England test series, ANZ Champs, World Youth Champs, Fast Five Series, Commonwealth Games and culminating this year with the Netball World Champs in Sydney. Over the years Yvonne worked tirelessly toward her ultimate goal, to gain her International Umpire Award which she achieved in 2013. She is to be commended for all the hard work, patience and determination she put in over the years to gain this very prestigious award. Yvonne, while perusing her own goal, has also given many hours back to the umpiring communities of North Harbour and Northern Wairoa. She has consistently umpired North Harbour’s premier competition, has been on the NZ Coaching Panel for many years and taken the NZ theory classes. She has and will continue to be a wonderful role model for all our young and up-and- coming umpires progressing through the umpire pathway, with their long term goal of becoming International Umpires. The Netball Northern Zone would like to thank Yvonne for the years she has represented us at the elite level which she has done in a very professional manner. We are also very fortunate and thankful that Yvonne will still be part of our umpiring community assisting with workshops, coaching and umpiring. Yvonne, you should be very proud of what has been a very long, fulfilling umpiring career. Congratulations! NNZ National Championships The Netball Northern Zone was well represented at the recent National Championships with 5 umpires selected to officiate at this event. Tania Fink (ANC), Tanya McCarthy (Waitakere), Cory Nicholls (NNH), Zak Middleton (ANC) and Kalesi Tabete (NNH) all had a very successful week enjoying the challenge of umpiring at this tournament. Congratulations to Tania Fink who umpired the final and Zak Middleton who did 3 v 4. Kalesi, Tanya M, Zak, Cory and Tania F October Newsletter 2015 New Rules – 2016 As from 1st January 2016 the New Rules that were passed at the recent International Netball Federation meeting in Sydney, will be invoked.
