OUR STORIES Un francophone natif de Maillardville May 2012, Rick Hansen celebrates the 25th anniversary of his original climb. How does a person living in Coquitlam their entire life maintain their Francophone mother tongue? Well I did it and here is my story: I have lived in Coquitlam all of my 62 years. I proudly own the 1959 family house that my father built; he was a contractor. I also proudly continue to speak the language of Molière—that is French—the 125 BLOCK PARTY CHALLENGE language of my ancestors. It was one of the first places that I visited when I first moved to Coquitlam. I remember walking down the street with my mother-in-law … and we crossed the road and entered into this magnificent forest, and I was just stupefied. Ever since it’s been a place I love to go either with my kids or my dog, and it’s just so peaceful and beautiful .
