He has held teaching positions all over the country, working at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and The Rhode Island School of Design, among others. He most recently taught at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he was head of ceramics and chair of the department. Burns' work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and is held in numerous public and private collections. Burns has a keen sense of ceramic history and pop culture, which he uses to express complex cultural notions of sexuality and identity.
