CNU Field Hockey 2009 | 3 Hea D CO ach CA RRI E MOUR A Carrie Moura took over a struggling Christopher Newport field hockey team in 2003. Moura was the fourth coach in the programs short four year existence. Moura has provided far more than consistency for CNU field hockey. She has brought a winning way that has propelled the program to national recognition The first sign of that recognition came in 2006 when the team was ranked No. 18 in the nation early in the season for CNU's first-ever national ranking. The 2006 Captains would later receive their first ever NCAA at large bid, hosting the first round. They advanced to the Sweet 16 and eliminated 3 time defending National Champions Salisbury to move onto the Elite 8. At the end the year the awards flowed in for Moura. She was named 16 2007, 2008 T National Division III Coach of the Year by womensfieldhockey.com and Coach of the Year in Virginia. The programs first ever All-American, ee All-Region, and State Player of the Year were chosen from the 2006 W squad. Since then, CNU has appeared in the NCAA Tournament all three years capturing at large bids, reaching at least the Sweet 16. The list of All American and All Region players continues to grow and the program has now established a winning tradition. Moura is a native of Litchfield, Connecticut and a 1998 graduate of Keene State College in New Hampshire, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education. She also received her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership in May of 2003 from Lynchburg College. She was an assistant field hockey coach at Lynchburg College in 2001 and 2002, where her squads went 39-6 overall and 23-1 in conference 8 2006, NCAA S 8 2006, NCAA play. She also served as head coach of the lacrosse program at Keene E State College in New Hampshire from 1999 to 2001. Moura currently ranks No. 22 in the nation in winning percentage among all NCAA field LIT hockey coaches, regardless of division. MOURA VS . She has a strong E NCAA field hockey background, having won three state championships at Cox High School and was a two-time first team All-American selection at Longwood University. At CNU she works primarily with the goalies and defense. Over the past four years she has worked with goalies who have produced some oustanding numbers, includ- ing leading the nation in saves percentage, fourth in the nation in goals-against average and setting a new school record for shutouts. LIT Over the last three years, CNU has given up just 57 goals in 47 games, an average of just 1.21 per game. Iman has also coached at Ocean Lakes High
