Odyssey Ooojh Gallery 2018.9.2 - 9.23 Seoul, South Korea A contemporary jewellery A contemporary A contemporary jewellery A contemporary A contemporary jewellery A contemporary Odyssey Originally, this exhibition is the joint project of three French jewellers who wished to show how rich their experiences of artist residencies in China, South Korea and Japan had been. After Paris and Munich, the exhibition will take place in Seoul. Three artists from each of the three countries where the French jeweller’s artist residencies took place will be invited to join in. The diversity of the exhibited objects reflects how the artists have been influenced by their experiences abroad from a technical and cultural point of view. It is an invitation to wandering, dawdling and discovery, this exhibition sheds light on pathway thoughts and knowledge transmission. A contemporary jewellery A fresh new window on to the world. Experimenting with tools, materials and techniques is central to my work. I spend time watching how a machine works, what a tool is made for, how materials react to tools. Like an alchemist, I have developed an emotional relationship with metals and with the elements of my studio. Each time I consider the context in order to give deeper meaning to my work, and then, to make all the elements mine, I wrestle with them, coax them in order to create jewels and objects that tell my own point of view. I have recently found great inspiration in artist residencies in Asia which have made patterns more important in my work. I find patterns add a lot of meaning to jewels : they communicate the minds and hearts of a specific culture. A barnyard fowl swoons with admiration and jealousy over a parrot: the incredibly beautiful Bird enjoys a special intimacy with the master, whose shoulder he perches on to converse. In a will to pass themselves off as him, turkeys, partridges, pi- geons, pheasants, ducks, chickens, geese, guinea fowl and quails organize themselves and put together their most beautiful feathers to recreate the illusion of his presence. Subject to the rules of time and space, this body conveys an individual story, when it is also imbued with collective history. I attribute to it a noble function of receptacle, a place of sacred passage that carries the memory of our past, and that to become. I use the jewel to establish a connection between intimate perception and universal feeling, to talk about what we all have so close and so different.
