Team Physician Adam Simon General Manager, Basketball Operations Adam Simon is entering his 24th season with the Miami HEAT organization, and his first as Vice President of Player Personnel. Simon has also spent each of the last five seasons as both Assistant General Manager for the HEAT, and General Manager of the Sioux Falls Skyforce. In his new role, he will continue to assist HEAT VP Andy Elisburg in all areas of the basketball operations department, but will now be responsible for Miami’s pro, college, G League and international scouting. In his previous 23 seasons with the HEAT, Simon has had many responsibilities in the scouting and basketball operations department. He began his career in the Miami HEAT video room in 1995, then moved to Basketball Operations Intern for the 1996-97 season. He’s also held titles such as Administrative Assistant (1997-01), Scouting Coordinator (2001-02), Scout (2002-03), Scout/Director of College Scouting (2003-04), Director of College/International Scouting (2004-11), Director of Player Personnel (2011-13) and most recently Assistant General Manager/ General Manager, Sioux Falls Skyforce (2013-18). In addition to his new duties this season, Simon continues heading the basketball operations department for the Skyforce, where he earned the 2016 NBA G League Executive of the Year award. Nevada Smith Head Coach Nevada Smith begins his fourth year with the Miami HEAT organization and his third as Head Coach of the Sioux Falls Skyforce. In his previous two seasons, Smith coached the Skyforce to an overall record of 54-46 (.540). Though Smith’s Skyforce teams have missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, he has helped his players earn NBA Call-Ups on seven different occasions, including notables like Briante Weber, Okaro White and Larry Drew II. With a full arsenal at his disposal last season, Smith earned NBA G League Coach of the Month honors while leading the Skyforce to a 6-1 record during the month of February. Smith previously served as head coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers for two seasons (2013-15) where he compiled an overall record of 57-43 (.570). In his first season with the Vipers, Smith led the team to a postseason berth after recording a 30-20 (.600) record and setting a then NBA G League single-season record for most three-point field goal attempts per game at 45.3. The following season he posted a 27-23 (.540) record as his teams averaged an impressive 123.2 points per game in his two season stint. Prior to entering the professional ranks, Smith served as the head coach at NCAA Division III Keystone College. The Giants were 39-16 (.709) in Smith’s two seasons at the helm and managed to reach the only two CSAC championship game appearances in school history. From 2002-11, Smith held numerous assistant coaching positions at Ithaca College, Allegheny College, SUNY Canton and St. Lawrence University. Smith Graduated from Bethany College, where he completed a degree in sports management in 2002. A two-sport athlete in basketball and golf for Bethany, he earned All- PAC honors on four occasions, three in basketball and one in golf. He finished his basketball career as the school’s all-time leader in three-pointers made (313) and free throw percentage (.870). Smith and his wife, Lindsay, were married in August of 2017 and are expecting their first child in January of 2019. Kasib Powell Assistant Coach Kasib Powell begins his third year as assistant coach of the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Powell previously spent two seasons (2007-09) with the Skyforce as a player, where he earned NBA G League MVP honors in 2008. In addition to his stint as a player in Sioux Falls, Powell was signed to a 10- day contract by the Miami HEAT on March 22, 2008 and was later re-signed for the remainder of the season on April 8. He appeared in 11 games (four starts) with Miami and averaged 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 27.6 minutes per game. In total, his professional career spanned nine seasons, which included stops in the NBA, NBA G League, CBA, USBL and playing overseas. Since his retirement in 2013, Powell has served as the director of the South Dakota Basketball Network, which focuses on the development of AAU players. He also had a brief stint as Head Coach of the Dakota Magic of the National Basketball League of America. Powell now resides in Sioux Falls with his girlfriend and three children, Kaevon, Janiyah and Jamre. Brian Lankton Assistant Coach Brian Lankton returns for his third season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, and first as an Assistant Coach under Nevada Smith after having spent last year as a Video Coordinator Intern for the Sacramento Kings. Prior to his one-year stint in Sacramento, Lankton served as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Skyforce during the 2016-17 season and was involved as a basketball operations assistant under Head Coach Dan Craig during the 2015-16 season. In total, Lankton has been working within the NBA and NBA G League since 2014, having spent a season with the Iowa Energy before coming to Sioux Falls. Originally from St. Charles, Illinois, Lankton played basketball for two seasons at Phoenix College in Arizona from 2008 to 2009, helping the team reach the NJCAA Final Four before transferring and graduating from the University of Iowa in 2013. Lankton returns to his home in St. Charles, Illinois each offseason. Connor Erickson Director of Basketball Operations Connor Erickson enters his second season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce and his first as Director of Basketball Operations. Last season, Erickson spent the year as a Basketball Operations Intern before being promoted for the 2018-19 season. Prior to joining the Skyforce, Erickson played collegiately at Division II Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri where he earned All- Conference honors as a senior while averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Erickson, a native of Overland Park, Kansas, grew up grew up with his parents, Neal and Courtney, and four siblings, Abby, Hannah, Robi and TJ. He attended Blue Valley North High School where he lettered in both soccer and basketball before his college career began. Erickson and his wife, Meghan, were married this offseason. Ian Lackey Athletic Trainer Ian Lackey enters his first season as the head Athletic Trainer for the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Lackey has been a full time athletic trainer at the University of South Dakota since 2016. Though his primary sport has been football, he’s gained experience working with athletes from all different sports.
