Two weeks later he then made his first start, against France, and marked the occasion with his first try for Scotland in a performance imbued with talent and confidence, a feature he carried into 2013 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia, as the squad's youngest player. In the 2013/14 season he scored again versus the French and followed up with a spectacular high ball take and 50 metre romp to the line for a try against the USA, his fifth for Scotland. In the second match of Scotland's 2014 summer tour, Hogg blasted over a key 50 metre penalty - his first for Scotland - in the 19-17 win against Canada and on the third match of the tour he weighed in with his sixth international try as Argentina were put to the sword 21-19. Back on home soil and he scored Scotland try number seven as Argentina were beaten 41-31 in the opening match of the 2014/15 domestic season, following this up with his second try of the 2014 Autumn Test Series in Scotland's 37-12 defeat of Tonga at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock. Hogg was one of only five players who started in every game of the 2015 RBS 6 Nations Championship and was selected for the 12-man shortlist for player of the tournament, along with fellow Scot and Glasgow Warriors club-mate, Jonny Gray. Throughout the Championship he made the most metres (442), 99 more than his closest rival, France’s Scott Spedding, and also beat the most defenders (20), four more than second-place, England wing Jack Nowells. His tally of 63 carries was second only to England’s Billy Vunipola, and his seven clean breaks were joint third highest in the tournament. He also managed eight offloads, one less than tournament leader George Ford. The full-back also scored his ninth try in a Scotland jersey, as he crossed the line in the 23-26 defeat to Wales at BT Murrayfield. It was this scintillating form that made him a certainty for the 2015 Rugby World Cup squad, starting against Italy in the 48-7 winning warm-up match at BT Murrayfield before being the only player to start each of the national team's World Cup games, launching a long-range penalty through the sticks in the 39-16 win over USA. Hogg brought arguably the form of his still young career to the 2016 RBS 6 Nations, earning 30% of the public vote to win the Player of the Tournament Award, thanks to a massive overall contribution to the national team's campaign, with tries against France and Ireland, and characteristically audacious assists for Seymour, Visser and Barclay among his 2016 championship showreel. He remained a mainstay of the Scotland side, earning his 50th cap in the RBS 6 Nations the following year and scooping the RBS Player of the Championship for a second year running, scoring three tries: two against Ireland – when he was named man of the match – and one against France, and creating a further three (meaning he was involved in 43% of all Scotland tries in the campaign). Hogg's work-rate, consistency and attacking brilliance was then rewarded with his selection on a second British & Irish Lions tour (2017 to New Zealand). He was one of seven players to feature in all tests at the 2018 NatWest 6 Nations and gained the most metres over the championship, covering 479 metres. He scored his 18th try for Scotland against Italy in the final round of the championship to help secure Scotland a 3rd place finish. Hogg featured at his second World Cup, in Japan in 2019, and played three times during Scotland's campaign. Write seven key facts about Stuart Hogg 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
