Enquires to: Claire Hayes Direct Line: 0151 233 2934 Email: [email protected] Our Ref: 001 Date: 19.11.09 To whom it may concern, My name is Claire Hayes I am a Youth Participation worker for Liverpool City Council and I support Liverpool Youth Council. I had the pleasure of Meeting with Chloe Spicer and Leah Lynd representatives of Enormity Inc. during July 2009 when they visited Liverpool for the launch of the World Santa Challenge 2009. Leah and Chloe had a formal meeting with the Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor Mike Storey CBE during which they described their volunteering in Tasmania and explained the role of the organisation. They also described Tasmania and Ulverstone. Both Leah and Chloe engaged confidently with the Lord Mayor and where able to share their experiences of being a young person growing up in such a different environment to Liverpool. They went on to present the Lord Mayor with gifts from Tasmania including a Souvenir Cuddly toy version of Tasmanian Devil (the animal that most people here associate with Tasmania) they went on to explain details about the animal and answered questions posed by the Lord Mayor about their home. I then went on to introduce Leah and Chloe to some members of Liverpool Youth Council who had come to welcome them we all shared a meal together in our city’s China Town. During the meal Leah and Chloe chatted happily with the group about their home their culture and explored differences and similarities between the democratic processes and what its like being a young adult in both countries. Again Leah and Chloe presented the group with souvenir gifts from Tasmania and went on to answer questions about the various cuddly animals and sporting badges. Later in their week they also visited a “typical youth centre” and met with young people from that area again they shared their experiences of their home, culture and more gifts. Leah and Chloe have stayed in contact with some of the young people they met here through “facebook” and continue to chat and up date each other about their daily lives. During the time I spent with Leah and Chloe they both presented themselves in a confident, open and friendly manner. They were very positive role models and also invited Liverpool Youth Council to Tasmania in 2011.
