Data-processing (2014) th REPORT ON BUSINESS DYNAMICS IN4 NORTH SARDINIA EDITION 2015 Data-processing (2014) on database Unioncamere-Infocamere INTRODUCTION The study of business dynamics is one of the main sources of economics studies, providing structural information and data that allow to better understand the economic and social aspects of a territory. In fact, statistical surveys are not only instrument of knowledge for all users, but they are crucial tools for the decision makers in the public and private sectors, researchers and planners. One of the key functions of the Chambers of Commerce is actually the analysis of local economy data, providing enterprises with in-depth information of the socio-eco- nomic situation in the area. The Chamber of Commerce of North Sardinia monitors its economic system, in order to assist entrepreneurs in decision-making. Through its Statistical and Research Office, this Chamber of Commerce analyses social and economic phenomena publishing Statistical“ Indexes”, the “Survey on Business Dynamics” and the “Economic Survey of North Sardinia”. “Statistical Indexes” are quarterly updated, whereas the “Survey on Business Dynamics” and the “Economic Survey of North Sardinia” are annually published. The “Survey on Business Dynamics” focuses the attention on enterprises data, while the “Economic Survey of North Sardinia” takes into account many other economic and social aspects (such as agriculture and agro-industry, foreign trade, credit, national accounts, employment, manufacturing, services, etc...). The great performance of North Sardinia Comparing 2014 with the previous year, enterprises growth rate in North Sardinia has registered a +0,83% (the province of Sassari +0,37% and the province of Ol- bia-Tempio +1,52%), with 57.493 registered enterprises, of which 47.414 operating. Italy and Sardinia as well have recorded a positive growth rate (respectively, +0,51% and +0,61%). Better than last year In 2012, the growth rate of North Sardinia was +0,33%, whereas in 2013 +0,47%. The positive trend of 2014 in North Sardinia (+0,83%) has influenced also the whole Region (+0,61%), that had recorded a negative growth rate in 2013 (-0,05%). Most of the enterprises are headquartered in Cagliari (41%) and Sassari (33%), whereas businesses located in Nuoro and Oristano compose respectively 17% and 9% of the total firms of Sardinia. Business dynamics by sector and municipality In the province of Sassari the most affected sectors are construction (-2,68%) and transportation (-2,30%), whereas in Olbia-Tempio the worst performance has been regi- stered by mining and quarrying (-3,73%). Considering business dynamics by sector, services play the most important role. With regard to the main municipalities of the territory, the highest growth rate has been recorded by Olbia (2,9%), followed by Porto Torres (1,4%), Arzachena (1,3%), Alghero (1,12%) and Sassari (0,96%). Legal forms The “società di capitali” have registered a positive growth rate (4,94%), whereas the “società di persone” (-1,75%) and the imprese individuali (-0,05%) have decreased. However, the “imprese individuali” represent 57% of the total enterprises of North Sardinia. The cooperative businesses in North Sardinia are 732, whereas in the whole Region they total 2.800. Innovative start-ups, youth and women enterprises 5.093 youth enterprises are located in North Sardinia, while 21 are the innovative start-ups registered in the territory, most of them operating in service activities. They constitute 18% of the innovative start-ups headquartered in Sardinia. 10.754 women’s enterprises are operating in North Sardinia, mainly in trade and service activities. The Chamber’s activities In order to support the enterprises in this critical period, the Chamber of Commerce of North Sardinia has invested especially in promotional and training activities. Indeed, in 2014 this Chamber has granted more than 100 vouchers to flooded enterprises in Gallura, to start-ups, to innovative businesses and to women’s enterprises. Furthermore, the Chamber has supported the participation of the local firms to national and international fairs. In collaboration with different Trade Associations, the Chamber aims to realise development projects for the enterprises of North Sardinia.
