Venture underground for a boat tour of America's only all -water cavern; ride a vintage train along the Lehigh Gorge and be charmed by the town of Jim Thorpe, known as the "Switzerland of America" during the annual Fall Foliage Festival. Take to the soaring mountains during a vintage train ride along the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway and add a little fest to fall at the Bethlehem Oktoberfest. Take in a festive showcase of fall colors at glorious Longwood Gardens. Day Two - Wednesday, October 4: America’s first capital city is a treasure trove of history; this morning explore some of the most famous sites on a tour of Philadelphia highlights and lunch at the famous City Tavern to enjoy old fashioned American fare, such as Thomas Jefferson’s favorite sweet potato biscuits, served by staff in period dress. Following lunch head to the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country - Lancaster PA. Spend one night at the Cork Factory Hotel in historic downtown Lancaster. Tour the National Watch and Clock Museum and at- tend a show at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. Day Three - Thursday, October 5: Today we travel through spectacular fall foliage to Pennsylvania’s beautiful Laurel Highlands where we will visit “Fallingwater,” designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family in 1936. The house is cantilevered over a mountain waterfall and is considered the most important example of modern architecture in the world. We have a short drive to the Flight 93 National Memorial located at the site of the crash of United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked in the September 11 attacks. Overnight at the spectacular Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Day Four - Friday, October 6: This morning visit Columbus Chapel/Boal Mansion for a guided tour of the only tangi- ble link to Christopher Columbus in the United States. The Columbus Chapel contains the Admiral's Desk of Christopher Columbus which was imported from Spain to Boalsburg in 1909 by Columbus' descendants in the Boal family. Stop at Country Junc- tion Worlds Largest General Store. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Duffy's Tavern while re- laxing in a quiet, intimate setting reminiscent of colonial times. A true landmark with a rich history. After lunch, travel to Penn's Cave. Venture underground for a motorboat tour of America's only all-water cavern. Tour Victorian Mansions in Historic Bellefonte - Pennsylvania's Victorian Jewel. Spend one night at the premier Nittany Lion Inn on the Penn State Campus. Day Five - Saturday, October 7: We step back in time to the Victorian town of Jim Thorpe. Attend the Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival. Visit the Mauch Chunk Museum, the incredible Asa Packer Mansion and St. Mark’s Church to hear stories of the town’s wealthy forefathers. The other side of the town’s legacy is also explored at The Old Jail Museum, as you hear about the ill- fated Molly Maguires. With this town’s narrow streets & neat boutiques, you won’t be- lieve you’re not in Europe! Our overnight accommodations await us for a two night stay in this quaint town. Dinner tonight on historic Race Street. Day Six - Sunday, October 8: Board the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway old style passenger coaches from the 1920s for a ride along the picturesque Lehigh River, where we will see some of the most breath- taking views the Poconos have to offer. Followed by a luncheon show at Penn’s Peak, a spectacular venue atop the Pocono Mountains. Next, a guided tour of the beautiful Po- conos Mountains area. A local guide will take us through the scenic Cherry Valley Wild- life Refuge, and then on to the famed Delaware Water Gap. Stop in After a full day we return to our hotel for the evening. Day Seven - Monday, October 9: Today we enjoy more of the delightful Poconos. Enjoy a driving tour of Eckley Miners Village and discover the story of the Molly Maguires where the movie starring Sean Connery was filmed. The Dorflinger Glass Museum is a tribute to the life and accom- plishments of Christian Dorflinger, known throughout the world as the creator of fine crystal and exquisite cut glass. Overnight at the Woodlands Resort in Wilkes-Barre. Day Eight - Tuesday, October 10: Visit Honesdale "Birthplace of the America Railroad," the last stop on the famous gravi- ty railroad and the beginning of the Delaware & Hudson Canal. Roebling Bridge, the oldest existing wire cable suspension bridge in the nation built in 1848 and take a fall foliage train ride on a diesel powered train at Scranton Steam town National Historic Site. Day Nine – Wednesday, October 10: Today we travel through more of the beautiful Pennsylvania fall countryside on our way to Skytop Lodge at the base of West Mountain in the Pocono Mountains. Lunch today at the Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort. This food is savory and you will love the spectacular views of Lake Wallenpaupack. The “Niagara of Pennsylvania”, Bushkill Falls is among the Keystone State’s most famous scenic attractions. We will make a stop to sample Po- cono Mountain Bark at Callies Candy Kitchen before reaching Skytop. Spend two nights at Skytop Lodge - a Dutch Colonial-style manor house overlooking Skytop Lake, boasting opulent views of the surrounding region from every direction. Day Ten - Thursday, October 11: Spend a day enjoying the many activities offered at the Skytop Lodge. Gather for dinner at the Windsor Dining Room. Day Eleven - Friday, October 12 Explore a place of beauty and history as we tour Winterthur (pronounced “winter- tour”) . Founded by Henry Francis DuPont this premier museum of American decora- tive arts, reflects both early America and the du Pont family’s life here. Its 60-acre natu- ralistic garden is among the country’s best. Next stop, Longwood Gardens - created by Pierre duPont in 19th century. Enjoy lunch in the 1906 Fine Dining Room followed by a tour of one of the great gardens of the world, featuring a 4-acre Conservatory, outdoor gardens spanning 1,077 acres, 86 acres of beauty in the Meadow Garden, dazzling horti- culture displays and majestic fountains.
