JANUARY 2016 I VOLUME 5 We bring to you the 5th edition of the RPG Newsletter. We are delighted to share with you the exciting CSR journey that the RPG Group companies have had in the last three months, transforming the lives of many needy people, across India. In the last year through our CSR activities we created a huge difference at the three levels that we work i.e. around our plant locations; in the industries we operate in and of course the flagship program of the RPG Group - Netranjali, for universal social impact. The immense support received from all the employees has made this happen. We look forward to each one of you continuing to be a part of the work we do at the RPG Foundation. CEAT DIABETIC RETINOPATHY BIKE SCREENING - ON - WHEELS Diabetes causes total blindness & early intervention is a must. In India there is a diabetic epidemic and most people are not aware that they have high blood sugar. On the 30th of November an employee engagement activity was carried out at RPG House wherein 163 employees were screened for Diabetic Retinopathy. The purpose of this was to screen our employees for eye health issues and bring about awareness on Vision Loss due to Diabetes. The Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) Screening - on - Wheels bike was launched at the RPG House by Mr. Anant Goenka. The DR Bike is an innovative intervention that goes to remote communities around Bhandup and Navi Mumbai wherein elderly beneficiaries can avail the services of a free Diabetic Retinopathy check-up as an early stage intervention for vision loss due to diabetes. NETRANJALI 1 COMMUNITY BENEFICIARIES BEING SCREENED VIA THE DR BIKE CEAT NETRANJALI VISION CENTRES With the inauguration of two new vision centres at Navi Mumbai & Bhandup, this year Project Netranjali will aim to reach out to more than 8,000 beneficiaries through “primary eye care” in the surrounding communities in a focused manner and address EMPLOYEES BEING eye care intervention follow-up challenges. This SCREENED VIA THE DR permanent vision hub has screened more than BIKE AT RPG HOUSE WORLI 2,000 beneficiaries in the last few months focusing on the prevailing need for eye care in remote areas across Mumbai & Navi Mumbai. 2 Project Netranjali mainly focuses on providing timely eye care PROJECT intervention to various vulnerable target groups namely, truckers, NETRANJALI TAKES community persons & school children. This year, we have extended our EYE SCREENING TO support to the BEST Bus Drivers as well at their request. At 25 camps across Mumbai, we have screened over 1,900 drivers & provided THE BEST BUS free spectacles to over 1,700 of them with cataract referrals to over DRIVERS ACROSS 21 drivers. This intervention was much needed and appreciated by MUMBAI BEST drivers as more than 80% of the BEST drivers were in need of immediate intervention. NETRANJALI – OVERALL COVERAGE (OCT – DEC’15) 194 NETRANJALI CAMPS WERE CARRIED OUT IN COMMUNITIES, SCHOOLS AND TRUCKER FLEETS AT CEAT/ KEC AND RAYCHEM LOCATIONS-MUMBAI, NAGPUR, JAIPUR, JABALPUR, PUNE, NASHIK, AURANGABAD, KOLHAPUR, RAIPUR, HALOL & VASAI TRUCKERS CAMPS • Truckers Screened - 6228 • RPGF Provided Free spectacles - 3288 • Referred for Cataract (Sight Savers/ SHARP/Govt subsidized) - 285 COMMUNITY CAMPS • Patients Screened - 7056 • RPGF Provided Free spectacles - 2293 • Referred for Cataract (Sight Savers/ SHARP/Govt subsidized) - 1754 SCHOOL CAMPS • Children Screened - 4213 • RPGF Provided Free spectacles - 615 • Referred for Vitamin A, Squint, etc (Sight Savers/SHARP/Govt subsidized) - 269 3 VOLUNTEER WITH PEHLAY AKSHAR PEHLAY AKSHAR SESSIONS BEING CARRIED OUT IN SCHOOLS Pehlay Akshar’s volunteer program gives a unique opportunity to RPG employees to get involved. We have initiated two kinds of volunteer engagement programs: 1. In the first program, a volunteer can dedicate two hours on any Saturday morning to help a Pehlay Akshar child to build skills in any area that the volunteer chooses/ thinks he or she can contribute. It would be a one time commitment for two hours. 2. The second is a mentorship program which is a long term commitment, where volunteers dedicate one hour twice a month to mentor a Pehlay Akshar child. Currently there are 48 RPG volunteers for the Paper Boat Mentorship project across Worli, Bhandup and Vasai. With your help we hope to reach our goal of pairing every Pehlay Akshar child with a mentor. So please come forward and join us in our endeavour of shaping the future! PEHLAY AKSHAR 5 SWAYAM CEAT SWAYAM LAUNCHES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH WESTERN INDIA AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION! CEAT Swayam launched its partnership with the prestigious Automobile Association – Western India Automobile Association (WIAA). The first batch launch with WIAA was inaugurated by Mr. Ahmed Javed, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai on November 25, 2015. MR. AHMED JAVED, COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, MUMBAI INAUGURATING THE CEAT SWAYAM – WIAA BATCH IN MUMBAI. (TOI COVERAGE) After launching CEAT Swayam batches in South India, 57 women from Madurai batch were felicitated on November 27, 2015. These Swayam drivers were handed out Permanent License and Letters of Intent by Placement partner Top 4 Call Drivers Pvt Ltd. The women are further being mentored and guided by the placement partner. Some of the women are gearing towards working as female driving instructors with a driving school partner. 6 FELICITATION OF SWAYAM DRIVERS IN MADURAI! SWAYAM BATCH LAUNCH IN NASHIK, CHENNAI AND MADURAI! ABOUT 200 WOMEN WERE MOBILISED IN NASHIK, CHENNAI, MADURAI AND NAGPUR OF WHICH 96 WOMEN WERE ENROLLED IN TRAINING. 210 WOMEN COMPLETED THEIR ON-ROAD DRIVING AND MECHANICS TRAINING IN CHENNAI, MUMBAI, MADURAI AND BANGALORE. ABOUT 131 WOMEN ARE PRESENTLY IN THE LAST LEG OF COMPLETION OF THEIR TRAINING 2 SWAYAM BATCHES WERE LAUNCHED IN CHENNAI TRAINING 71 WOMEN IN TOTAL SWAYAM BATCH LAUNCH AT PRABUDDHA NAGAR NEAR OUR CEAT NASIK PLANT 7 Project Saksham - Our multi skill development program focuses on providing vocational SAKSHAM training to women for alternate livelihoods e.g. tailoring, nursing & providing technical skills training and education to youth for employability. KEC International has been training women with entrepreneurship skills and is encouraging these women to market their products at profitable costs in markets. Alongside, KEC Butibori has also adopted the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Ashti KEC NAGPUR under the PPP (Public Private Partnership) Scheme of the Government of India to upgrade the Infrastructure and to improve the quality of education of the Institute. Here is a Women entrepreneurs selling their glimpse of the activities products in local markets carried out over the last 3 months. ITI Adoption under Public Private Partnership model: Students undergoing training at ITI Ashti. On job training being provided to students undergoing plumbing course at ITI, Ashti. KEC Entrepreneurship Development Training Program: Ms. Sheetal Wanjari, SP Rural Nagpur interacting with the women trained to be entrepreneurs. KEC’s Government Technical High School adoption: Soft Skills Training session being carried out at the Government Technical High School for children in Sitalbadi, Nagpur. 8 PROJECT SAKSHAM RAYCHEM & CEAT Vocational Skill Development for the women at Raychem Halol: 22 women from Patiayana Muvada village trained for a month in tailoring & embroidery. These women have started working independently and are now earning a livelihood. Vocational Skill Development for the women at Raychem Chakan: 50 women from Induri village have successfully completed tailoring training held for a duration of 4 months (August – November, 15). Nursing training for adolescent girls at Raychem Vasai: Soft skills training was organised for 75 students from 3 batches. The girls were taught personality development, grooming etc. Mobile repairing for youth at CEAT Nashik: Mobile repairing session underway for 192 youth. Certificate Distribution for women at CEAT Halol: Tailoring Kit & certificate distribution for 30 women who have completed their three month course in tailoring. 9 Project Jeevan - Our integrated community development project JEEVAN focuses on improving all round quality of life in the areas of clean drinking water, overall health and nutrition based interventions amongst others. These have been identified as critical local need gaps by Tata Institute of Social Science Need Assessment Study at the communities surrounding our plant locations following which necessary intervention is being carried out. Reduction of Malnutrition in Halol, Gujarat: Supplementary nutrition being provided to 600 children in Halol in the schools surrounding the Raychem and CEAT plants. Health Check-ups: Regular heath check- ups being carried out for children to track their growth and record impact of the malnutrition program in Halol. Water Provision: Children accessing clean drinking water in the Schools around the Raychem Halol plant. Sanitation Initiation at CEAT Nashik: 45 Household Toilets and 6 School Toilets constructed under Project Jeevan as part of Swachha Bharat Abhiyan at Nashik as part of CEAT’s Jeevan initiative. CEAT Bhandup Adolescent health program: Gender and health sensitisation sessions being carried out for adolescent girls around the CEAT plant in Bhandup. Awareness on health issues and gender concerns being discussed with community girls. 10 ZENVOLUNTEER DAY AND LAUNCH OF THE VOLUNTEER LIGHTHOUSE With a whopping 20% Zensarians being volunteers; “Zen Volunteer Day” has been instituted from this year onwards in order Mrinal Kulkarni launches The Lighthouse, which is housed in the to honour the volunteers and celebrate the spirit of volunteering. Himalaya building on the Zensar ZenVolunteer Day was celebrated in style on 4th Dec with celebrity campus Mrinal Kulkarni, Zensar Foundation trustee Pervin Varma and over 2000 Zensarians in the audience. Apart from awarding the top 50 volunteers, this was also the perfect day to launch The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is essentially a physical room where citizens can meet, discuss, learn, be inspired and go forth to inspire. The Lighthouse runs programs which are about enabling Active Citizenship….making change happen in one’s own sphere of influence.
